Six Months In-Need to Make Changes in Protein

Post by heatheravise »

I have been reading the previous stage 1 recommendations. It left me with more questions since I have not made much progress.
When I eat meat other than ground turkey and fish (cod from health food store) I have stomach pains and D that start up within a few hours. The pains go away but the D always lasts several days. I have lots of fresh ground venison in the freezer that I am afraid to try. Two weeks ago I was doing really well and feeling good for over a week so I took three small bites of lamb chops (I prepared it for my husband so nothing was on it other than salt) and this same problem started within hours. It was such an instand reaction I was surprised because I chewed it well. I can tolerate some rice soaked in my soup for several hours but if I eat any rice as a side this same thing happens as it takes a week to fully recover. I have only tried the soaked rice a few times even in case it's not good for me. I'll add EnteroLab results at the end of this.
I can't seem to digest anything that is not super soft in my soup or my smoothie.
I have been on 9mg of budesonide since Dec. 4, 2020 and have been on a very limited diet I came up with in December after reading this forum and the book. Is this a problem other people with MC encounter?
I do eat a lot of ground turkey since it's my main protein (about 9 pounds a week in my soup) and I have not been able to find it without the added rosemary. Could that be hindering my recovery? I expected to make at least some progress after almost six months but I don't feel I have. I tried going down to 6 mg of budesonide and all of my symptoms returned within 7 days so I went back on 9 mg. two days ago. I go back to my jerk doc. this week.
I live very rural and even when I go to the city in Arkansas to bigger health food stores I have only been able to find pure ground turkey on a rare occasion and only a couple one pound tubes which is not helpful for the amount I eat. If I could switch to a different protein without additives successfully that might help me heal. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!
EnteroLab:
Fecal Fat: 390
Fecal Anti gliadin 230
Fecal Anti casein 101
Fecal Anti ovalbumin 37
Fecal Anti soy 25
Mean Value 11 Antigenic Foods: 30
no foods with no significant reaction
some 1+ white potato
moderate 2+ corn, rice, tuna, chicken, pork, almond, cashew
significant 3+ oat, beef, walnut
Right now all I eat is: Organic Unsweet Coconut milk, frozen strawberries, pea protein-these things are in my smoothies twice a day (Tex said quit the frozen bananas because I was itching a lot so I did quit them), My soup I eat two or three times a day: homemade or purchased bone broth (no additives), ground turkey, organic carrots, organic zucchini, organic potatoes-red or yukon gold I haven't noticed a difference), cod, non gmo unsweet applesauce, herbal organic tea, an occasional simply gum or simply mints. I tried some green olives and some black olives recently that didn't seem to bother me. I cannot tolerate the black olives in a jar (kalamata) but just the ones in a can that are more tender.I am hungry a lot of the time even on this.I really need more foods! Thanks!

My first reaction is, why just ground turkey? Forget that and just buy whole turkey pieces and cut them up. That’s what I did!

So you are controlled on the Budesonide, or not really?

And of course the next thing out of MY MOUTH is, maybe it’s time to try cholestyramine

Hi Heather,

In addition to what Laine has posted, I noticed that you're eating pea protein. Legumes are almost always a problem for people who are sensitive to soy. Also, because you're sensitive to tuna, cod may be a problem, and there's a very good chance that herbal tea may also be a problem. Often, we can tolerate pure black or green tea, but teas that contain additives are often problematic.

What Tex said about the herbal teas...! I’m a tea snob but loved my bagged herbal teas from Celestial Seasonings which was up the road in Boulder at the time! They have a nice tour and a great gift shop if you are ever in the Denver/ Boulder area! Anyhoo, to my horror I noticed that what I was drinking of theirs all had soy in them! I even emailed them about it. If I remember correctly one of the only herbals that was ok was Sleepy Time.....

What kind of bone broth are you using?
If its chicken or beef, and you are having it 2-3 times a day, you may be reacting due to your Enterolab results?
You could try switching to lamb or turkey bone broth.
