My Son's Wedding
Hello, all. My son recently became engaged and while I am over the moon happy about that, the food thoughts pop up in my mind. Now there will be a bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, wedding day dinner, lunch while dress shopping....I'm not a negative person and I focus on the positive, but I would really like to be able to enjoy this time in my son's life without worrying about what I will eat, people asking me what I will be able to eat and I certainly don't want to get sick after the rehearsal dinner and feel badly for the wedding. I suppose this is sort of a pity party which is unusual for me, but after seven years of eating the same thing all the time, I just wish I could enjoy this special time like everyone else. Rant over. I'm thankful for all of you and your support on this journey.
Marcia

Hi Marcia,
This is just a thought, but you might want to pick up some GlutenEase, or a similar product, as insurance against getting accidentally glutened, or caseined during all those meals. It won't allow you to throw caution to the wind, but taken right before each meal, it should protect you against cross-contamination risks. You'll have plenty on your mind without worrying about cross-contaminated meals.
It can even be ordered from Amazon.
I hope you'll be able to enjoy the occasion.

Re: My Son's Wedding
Here is a suggestion from some weddings I've attended. Many caterers/banquet halls/restaurants can arrange for special meals for guests. For example, at my daughter's wedding, I had a guest who was strict Kosher, as well as myself who has a number of food sensitivities. The banquet hall was able to have a special meal for each of us. They have lots of experience with various food issues, and usually are very accommodating. For the wedding shower, you could arrange ahead of time to bring a platter of your own safe food. With some advance planning I hope that you will be able to relax and enjoy the events! But it's always a lot more work for us....... sigh
Good luck,
Rosie

Re: My Son's Wedding
Thanks, Tex. I do have GlutenEase that I always take when I dine out. I'm going to focus on the positive and hope all goes well. When I'm glutened I feel like I've been hit by a bus, even after 7 years of eliminating it from my diet. As always, I appreciate your guidance.
Rosie, I'm used to taking my own food everywhere but it would be nice to be able to go & enjoy the celebrations without all the prep on my part. It is what it is and I"ll make the best of it. I feel badly that he & his fiance' will be concerned about me & my meals, this is their time. Thanks for your support.

Re: My Son's Wedding
Hi Marcia!
I find it encouraging that your son and daughter-in-law are concerned about you! The best thing you can do is sit down with her and give her a protein and starch/salad choice you would love to see there and then only eat those things and pick around at other items if you can. At least that way you can eat, have energy and continue feeling good about the experience. The other situations you may need to bring your own cold bag (I do it every time I go into a restaurant, lol) unless it is a place you can find an item or two that works for you...
I wish you the best of everything....don't let this be a downer for you....integrate your foods the best you can in each scenario
Hugs

Re: My Son's Wedding
HI, Erica. Thank you. I am feeling better about the situation now and I know that I'm not the first person to have to work around food restrictions at a wedding. It will be a wonderful time and I'm going to focus on the happiness of the occasion. I've become quite good at taking my own food with me and if need be, I'll do so for all of the festivities. I feel more in control when I'm the planner, now I'm just the mother of the groom.

Re: My Son's Wedding
Marcia,
So excited for you and your son! I hope you have a great time at your son's wedding! If it is anything like my wedding, many years ago, I didn't eat very much nor did my mom, as I recall until after we left. It was such an exciting and busy time. I know it will be a wonderful wedding!
Many congrats!

Re: My Son's Wedding
Marcia,
Congratulations on the upcoming festivities.
A lot of times I will "pre-eat" safe foods so that I am not ravenous at events and then eat a bit at events.

Re: My Son's Wedding
Thanks, Brandy. That's what I'll do. I just want to focus on the happiness of the occasion and the food will just be a smart part of the day.
