Need Advice

Post by emlepage1 »

Hello,

I am feeling very discouraged and am hoping for advice. I hade the EnteroLab stool testing in April and have been faithful in following the diet. I pretty much have about ten foods that I can eat( peeled and well cooked summer squash and zucchini, spinach well cooked, cassava flour, fish. shellfish, lamb and turkey. ) Things had been going ok, not great but was down to 1 BM/day of D in am. For some reason about one week ago things have gotten worse, I have not changed anything however now I am having D 2-4x/day . I am also noticing some swelling under my light forefinger after eating ( this has only happened about four times). I have tried Imodium and Pepto-Bismol on different days and they do not help they just make me feel more bloated. I am feeling like I need to go back on budesonide but I think that I read that there can be no healing taking place while on this drug. I also already have osteopenia and am concerned about further bone loss.

On a positive note before I was diagnosed with MC ten months ago I was having brain fog, joint pain and D multiple times per day. I have to say that for the most part I do not have brain fog, no significant joint pain and my energy level is much improved.

Addendum- After writing this I realized that last week for 3 or 4 days I added 1/4-1/2 cup of organic tomato puree(no added ingredients except basil) and there were a couple of days that the cooked carrots I ate were the multi-colored kind and I do not think I cooked them enough. Could these two things be having that much of a residual effect?

Any advice?

Thank you very much,
Elaine Lepage

Hi Elaine,

It's too soon to be feeling discouraged — some of us just take longer to heal, than others. And most of us have occasional setbacks during our journey to remission, but persistence and dedication will eventually get us to the finish line.

Tomato is a citrus fruit, and most of us react to citric acid while we're still recovering. So that tomato puree may have been the cause of your increase in symptoms. And undercooked vegetables can be a problem, also, while we' re still recovering.

Actually, research shows that corticosteroids slow down healing, but they don't stop it, in most cases.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Tex, I really , really, appreciate the encouragement. I am so thankful for this forum. I am going to hang in there. I just read an earlier post from you on budesonide written in July and that was very helpful. I do not want to gain weight or have any of the other serious side effects that you mentioned.

Thanks again!

I have been in remission for many years, and still can't handle canned tomato products like tomato sauce, tomato soup, spaghetti sauce, etc. Fresh tomatoes aren't a problem, so it must have something to do with quantity or the added citric acid.

Thank you Rosie, I really appreciate you sharing. I really miss fresh tomatoes and hopefully someday I will be able to enjoy them again.
