Imodium/Pepto

Post by Billy »

How often does everyone take Imodium or Pepto? Is it a daily thing or just when traveling or going out? Just wondering about long-term use.

Hi Billy,

My understanding is, Imodium can be safely taken on a long-term basis, as long as the dose doesn't exceed eight tablets per day, spaced out as needed. But don't take more than you need, because Taking too much, can cause constipation. Pepto is normally used as an eight week treatment, for reaching initial remission. The treatment is up to eight tablets per day, spaced out during the day, but this can be reduced, if it causes constipation. The problem with long-term usage, if taken at such high dosage rates, is that some people eventually develop neurological issues as a side effect of the bismuth subsalycylate. if you're only taking the labeled dosage, that risk would be much lower.

I hope this helps.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks again Tex,
I’m dosing one Imodium in the morning and one pepto after dinner. I’m down to going once sometimes twice a day, mainly in the morning. Nothing solid yet but not watery diarrhea either. I’m afraid to stop. That’s why I asked. Glad you are here Tex thanks again.
