Question about Quercetin and Scallops
I have two questions. First my doctor recommended that I take Quercetin 500mg twice a day when I go on vacation in October, along with Zinc and VD3, which I already take, to help protect against COVID. I have been vaccinated, second shot was in March, but I am not really on board for the booster at this time. Has anyone taken Quercetin? If so has it caused any Colitis flare ups?
Question #2. We are staying with family and they have some scallops they got in Massachusetts and want to have them while we are there. Would that be safe? I realize we are all different but trying to get an idea if I should have a few before we leave to see how it goes. My fear is it will cause a flare up and then the vacation off. I have no trouble with fish including Salmon if that means anything.
Appreciate your input,
Cheryl

Re: Question about Quercetin and Scallops
Hello Cheryl,
I have no experience with quercetin — I've never tried it, so someone else will have to advise you on that, but as far as I'm aware, it's generally safe for most of us.
Regarding the scallops, shellfish are generally a safe choice, unless we were allergic to them before we developed MC.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Re: Question about Quercetin and Scallops
hi there
my research to date - I have only seen published articles about Vit D3, zinc and VitC helping to protect/minimise for Covid 19 issues
(funny enough these have been known as 'immune system' boosters for years in functional medicine - about time mainstream caught up!)
I have not seen Quecertin mentioned in articles I have looked at
Like most things in MC world, what works for one may not work for another
if you want to try it, find reputable product (reliable brand, no additives etc), start with small dose and work up gradually to dose recommended
If you start to react, stop.

Re: Question about Quercetin and Scallops
I am in remission for what it is worth.
My Primary Care Physician is big on the Quercetin/zinc/D3 as prevention against Covid.
When I travel I take 500 mg 2x per day of Quercetin. I believe most quercetin is dried apple peel. Sometimes I can pickup on an apple smell.
Scallops--I have no problem with them. I think your strategy of testing a few locally before you go is a good one.
Have fun on your vacation!

Re: Question about Quercetin and Scallops
Tex, Gabes, and Brandy,
Thank you all so much!
I agree Gabes and have been checking out the Quercetin brands, trying to determine the best one with the least amount of additives.
Brandy, what brand have you had success with? I will be taking the same dosage as you do.
So glad to get good feedback on the Scallops. I will try and find some locally to test first.

This may be too late for your trip but I just have the generic Vitamin Shoppe brand.
