Back earlier in the year I suffered a "pinched nerve" in my back which was quite debilitating and due to Covid had a very long wait to even get an appointment. Shortly afterward I developed a new and different backache. I mention it to my neurologist and he asked if I wanted surgery. but I declined so I could think about it.
Sometime later I read somewhere that it could be one of the side effects of this MC so I declined surgery. Then the incontinence struck me. My gp tried a course of antibiotics and then Cipro and when that didn't do it he referred to a GE and I had a colonoscopy which confirmed the diagnosis. So I have had all the horrifying nasty events, except maybe in public, which didn't happen only because I am still self quarantining.
I have been on budesonide EC for about 3 weeks with no results yet. Did I mention that neither Medicare nor my supplement nor my drug plan will cover it.

I might mention that I have RA and a history of 2 colostomies and 2 reversals. I am over 80 so surgery is not much of an option. Anyway, happy to have found you and I just had a wonderful "laugh out loud" moment while reading your definitions.
Thank you for being there.

Hi,

Welcome to the group. I can relate, as I'm past 80, myself, and I've had an ileostomy for over 16 years. I had a colostomy for five years before that. 20 years ago, I had arthritis, and I still have the crooked fingers to prove it. But when I discovered how to resolve my microscopic colitis symptoms, all my arthritis symptoms also faded away.

When budesonide doesn't work, that doesn't leave many practical treatment options. If budesonide hasn't worked after using it for three weeks, it's probably never going to work. Most MC patients using that drug get relief within a few days.

This disease is caused by chronic inflammation. The inflammation is caused by the antibodies that are regenerated every time we eat a meal or snack that contains certain foods to which the disease has made us sensitive, and eventually this causes our immune system to become so hypersensitive that it begins to react to all sorts of food. Some of us produce antibodies to certain medications. But eliminating all of the problem foods (or medications) will stop the inflammation, and that will resolve all the symptoms, and put this disease into remission. So the safest, cheapest way to control this disease is to simply change our diet to avoid all the foods (and medications) that are causing our immune system to produce antibodies against them. I've been in remission for over 16 years by altering my diet.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
