You're still here!!!!

Post by Sue777 »

Hi old and new members. As is typical, I'm back to read some of the wonderful information on here because I sense I'm coming out of remission and want to get the up-to-date knowledge and opinions of people who really KNOW about this disease - the moderators here! I was on 6MP for a while and it put me into a complete remission for 15 months. I was eating anything and everything I wanted and still doing fine, until I wasn't (a week or so ago). I'm upset and depressed but trying to remind myself that this too shall pass (one way or another!). It was a great run but it's time to pay the piper for all the bad foods I was eating. I thought about calling my doc and getting a prescription for something but instead I want to try eating wisely for a few weeks and see if I can reduce my symptoms before resorting to meds.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how happy and excited I was to see some of the old timers still here, but most especially TEX!!!!!! You've done such wonderful things for so many people with this board and your books . . . I was thrilled to see you and this board are still active (and nicely improved)!

Be well everyone..... there is life with colitis, it just sometimes gets put on hold for a short time.

Hi Sue,

it's good to "see" you again, but I'm sorry to learn that your remission fizzled out. I get the impression that sometimes stress can trump even the best of treatments. Have you had any added stress in your life lately that might have triggered a relapse? Life is rather stressful for all of us these days, so sometimes it doesn't take a huge amount of added stress to push us over the edge.

Another possibility is the unfortunate reality that we slowly build up a tolerance for most medications, causing them to become less effective with repeated use. I have no idea how 6MP might rate in that department.

I hope you'll be able to regain remission, soon.

Thanks, Tex.... I was so thrilled to see you are still very active here and this board is alive and well!

I have been medication free for 15 months so HOPEFULLY if I need to go back on mercaptopurine it will work just as well as last time. But before going that route I'm just eating VERY CAREFULLY and kicking myself for abusing all that freedom of choice I've had for the past year. Stress? Yes, it's not as chronic or severe as when I was at my corporate job but I am working again, from home, and some days are rather stressful. But I'm meditating twice a day which seems to help a lot.

I think my remission ended because I abused it. Lesson learned.

Good to see you Sue :-)

I just popped on here tonight because I haven't visited in a while either.

I bounce in and out of remission...but I'm starting to suspect it is hereditary now :-( The genetics seem to keep me eating a certain type of food line up and if I add stressful times into the mix it doesn't end well for me. Sept 19th my Step dad passed away (Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma) and my favorite Uncle Al passed Nov 7th (Coronary Heart failure)....it's been a rough month.

I'm doing ok most of the time...just living and dealing with what I'm dealt and trying not to let it get the best of me anymore. I find smaller meals help, less sugared things, lesser oil/fat intake and maintain my Vit D and Mag levels.

I'm just as happy to see Tex and many others here as well, plus many new members too :-)

Hi Erica, nice to "see" you. :)

Yup, good attitude.... we just do the best we can at dealing with what we're dealt. It's not always easy but when I'm going through the rough times I remind myself that this too shall pass. So sorry about your recent losses - I'm sure the grief is affecting you physically and emotionally so give yourself time to heal at the pace that feels right.

Ugh. giving up sugary stuff. It's my reward and treat for having to deal with this but I know it's not helping my cause. I will try to cut back on the sweets, too. Thanks for the reminder!
