Saturated fat?

Post by Sonia »

In cooking more with coconut oil and using coconut milk, I'm sure my saturated fat consumption is way up. I've read that some people think that saturated from coconut isn't as bad for the heart as other sources like dairy. Any thoughts or info on this?
Thanks,
Sonia

Hi, Sonia. When my cholesterol level increased I stopped putting coconut oil in my morning protein drink. I have a family history of high cholesterol and I'm trying to avoid being one of them. That doesn't really answer your question, but I'm curious to see what my blood work shows a year after stopping the coconut oil.

I used to think that coconut was harmless until my cholesterol level went up. I used coconut cream in my coffee and moisturized with coconut oil. When I realized that it is high in saturated fats, I stopped these two things, and lo and behold, next check-up showed levels within limits again. So, yes, I definitely think we have to go easy on the coconut if we're worried about cholesterol.
