Dental Implant
Hello. Sometime ago I posted about the antibiotic that was ordered for the bone loss at my dental plant. I asked my dentist for a referral to a periodontist as I wasn't happy with that. I had my appointment today & the periodontist will open the implant site, clean it out, etc. but I will not be continuing with the antibiotic every three months as was ordered by the oral surgeon who placed the implant. I don't think I'll be going to him again. I will have to take an antibiotic after the surgery, but I'll be as proactive with that as possible.

Hi Marcia,
I agree with you. If the implant was done properly, I don't see any reason why an antibiotic would be needed every few months. But I've never had an implant, so I might just be talking out of school, as the older generation used to say back in the good old days. I need some dental work, myself, but I'm postponing it, hoping that the current Covid surge will subside soon.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

It is not healthy to have ongoing antibiotics due to antibiotic resistance.

I agree, Brandy and that's why I wanted a second opinion. I don't believe the antibiotic would have done anything to prevent additional bone loss, but it would have been damaging to my overall health.

I have lost 2 dental implants in the last 3 years due to bone loss. Had them done over 10 years ago... and I am pushing 80 years old. Recently had a third implant problem and just had it cleaned out and yet another bone graft.. just like the other two. Hoping to save this one!
Don't think the problems with the implants have anything to do with collagenous colitis.. just old age:)
For sure, for me, antibiotics didn't help with bone loss!
I remember my first experience with bone grafts (over 20 years ago). I asked what a bone graft was! I got a long complicated answer. I thought a minute and asked... "you mean I am getting dead people's bones??" The woman was stunned for a moment and then assured me that yes It was but it was perfectly safe and they were totally sanitized... LOL

Hi, Grannyh. I hope this implant lasts! I believe I have bovine bone in my bone graft....I hope I don't start to moo! So far it has healed well. I hope that a good sign.
