Hello. I thought I'd share a comment from a server from a recent trip I was on. The menu didn't have many options that could be served gf and she explained that the steak frites were fried in a shared fryer, but maybe the high temperature would burn off the gluten. Uh, no. I'm attending a function tomorrow & when I asked if there will be any gf options the response was that they will be serving soup & sandwiches. Maybe take off the bread? Uh, no. In a perfect world we would be able to travel without having to pack everything to take along.

Hi Marcia,

I'm pretty stable most of the time but I got violently ill the day after I ate some fried cubed potatoes (breakfast potatoes) at the Charlotte airport. I was starving and forgot to bring any food with me. I knew they had risk.

I'm sure I reacted to gluten contamination in the fryer vat. I learned that lesson.

The next time I was at the same facility I was told a salad was gluten free. Uh, no. I could see the croutons.
I was also told that a Farro salad was gluten free. I had to google Farro and learned Farro grain is not gluten free.

Brandy, that's awful. It shouldn't be this difficult! I wouldn't have ordered the steak frites anyway, but her thoughts on thinking the high temperature would kill the gluten just shows how little the food service industry knows (or cares) about food allergies/sensitivities).
