Hello!
A family member just tested positive to Covid. In the past, I've taken Zinc, NAC, Vitamins C & D as preventative measures. Now having CC, I'm not sure if Zinc, NAC and Vit C will negatively affect my four-month remission status; or if it'll have adverse affects. I particularly would like to get the NAC back into my regimen, but I stopped taking most supplements when I got diagnosed with CC. Any advice would be greatly appreicated.
Thank you!
Anne

Re: Covid
Hello Anne,
I believe I would avoid the NAC, because diarrhea is listed as a side effect. But taking zinc, vitamin D, vitamin C, and magnesium will definitely improve your resistance to Covid, and those supplements should be safe if you've been in remission for at least four months. Don't overdo the magnesium, but you should be able to tolerate about 250 to 300 mg of magnesium glucinate per day, if you divide up the dose so that you take about a 1/3 of the total daily dose with or after each of 3 meals. If oral magnesium causes you to have diarrhea, then use magnesium oil or magnesium lotion on your arms and legs. Magnesium is important, because the immune system cannot use the other supplements without an adequate magnesium level to enable insulin to carry them to the cells where they are needed in the body. At least, that's my opinion — I've never used NAC.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Re: Covid
agree with tex, avoid the NAC as it encourages detoxing and this is likely to cause loose stools
