My Smoothies

Post by annie oakley »

1 cup Ice (crushed)
1 cup Fruit (prefer fresh)
1/4 cup Apple Juice or Orange juice
1/4 honey (optional)

Blend in Blender til smoothe. You can add health poeders, vitamins, herbs, or what ever you wish to this. It's just a basic smoothie drink. I Drink this for breakfast in the summer and at night if I need something sweet and don't want sugary snacks. Love Oma

I've been wondering if honey would work, but I've never tried it. I've been using maple candy, when I wanted a little added sweetness. I'll try honey the next time I get inspired to make a smoothie.

I usually use apple cider, but I may have to switch to apple juice, since I'm not sure if cider will work with honey.

Thanks for the recipe.

Love,

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

It will work if you don't use much but I prefer applejuice. It's a basic reciepe but you can add all sorts of things if you want. Love Oma

Hi Oma,

I love cold smoothies when the weather is hot - coming up soon!

Have you tried adding nuts and/or flax seed to your smoothies? It gives them a little texture and added flavor. Almonds grind nicely in the blender but you may have to use almond flour if you sip your smoothie with a straw.

I really like adding a raw egg or two at the end - don't grind it too much; it will destroy some of the proteins in the egg. If you use good quality eggs (from non-cage birds) the risk of salmonella is very low. I have never had a problem and it is a great way to get some good protein. In this way the smoothie is a complete meal.

Love,
Karen

Yes I add things like that.....makes them interesting...I also forgot that I add a couple tablsp of yougurt (unflavored w/Acidolphlus) I love the smoothies also. They help me keep my weight down and are so good when it's so hot and I don't want to eat much. I have tried both almond flour and ground up almonds. If you get your almonds small enough it's ok. And you are right, a raw egg makes them almost a complete meal. I try to get free range chicken eggs (brown, as the yoke are brighter) I have taken to eating frozen blueberries instead of Ice cream. It's frozen Like Ice cream but hasn't got the milk which causes mucus and weight gain on me. Love Oma
