Casein ? Polly and anyone...
Hi, I haven't been able to find much about casein intolerance online except its connection with autism. Does anyone have any links to suggest? What are the main symptoms?

Hi Celia!
I don't have any references at my fingertips. Maybe Luce or Wayne do.
Casein gives me battery-acid D within 2 hours of eating it, and left-sided neck/shoulder aches/pains the next day. Also screws up my sinuses.
As I have said, I believe dairy may be responsible for many chromic disease problems, but I have't any research to back this up.
I'll be interested to see what others know.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Celia,
Have you checked out some of the links hera?

Here's kind of an unusual consideration:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
After receiving Dr. Fines test results that indicated I was casein intolerant I spent some unfruitful time looking for information on casein. I have no good links to casein intolerance but have found that attention to my own symptoms is/was a far better guide than any thing else. Along with some 20/20 hindsight finally discovered that along with gluten and other lectin intolerances the explosive D, intense body aches , muscle tension, intestinal cramps and a general feeling of malaise within four hours was enough proof that eating any kind of dairy product was most likely a casein reaction since consuming the lactose free, really the lactose reduced , products had always resulted in the same symptoms before the tests .
Their is lots of documentation out there that eating dairy or dairy byproducts of any kind is counterproductive to good health. Adding in the lectin connection is enough evidence for me to never eat dairy or dairy byproducts again no matter where they show up.
Hope my experience is of some help.
To your continued recovery
Matthew

Celia,
I recall having difficulty finding anything particularly informative about casein intolerance - you are not alone. Matthew's advise to listen to your body is bar far the best in terms of figuring out what works and what doesn't; however, it is always nice to understand intellectually what goes on and why those things work - let us know if you find any information that can be posted here on the board. It would be good.
I too am intolerant of casein. I think I need to read DogtorJ's thing about lectins if it has a lot of information about how bad dairy is for your health - I love to read things that reinforce my feeling of how good my diet is for me LOL!! Thanks, Matthew
Celia, have you notice that DogtorJ is not misspelled? He is a Vet - coming from a completely different place. Very interesting reading.
Love,
Karen

Inspired by the paleolithic diet and lifestyle -
living w/o gluten, dairy, soy, corn, and yeast.

Thanks. I will check out the links and tune into my own body! Great advice. I've always had trouble with milk and thought it was lactose intolerance and that I could manage small amounts --- milk in my tea cheese, butter. I've never drank/eaten more than that. If I drank a glass of milk or a milkshake I would get intense pain/stiffness in my knees. I tried it again when I was doing the Zone diet in 2000 and after two weeks I felt like my whole body was falling apart.
But I never noticed reactions to milk in my tea or cheese now and then or butter until recenlty. Now if I have cheese I immediately have C., all peristalis at a stand still.
Karen, I didn't notice the g in dogtorj's name at all! Celia
