GI Doc in Central California

Post by Harmony33 »

I have found a Gastroenterologist in a small town in central California who actually believes that diet can help control Microcsopic Colitis:

Dr Igor Nastaskin
Santa Maria Gastroenterology
http://gisantamaria.com

He suggests:
Strictly Gluten free
Avoiding processed foods as many of the minor ingredients can create intolerances
Considering an elimination diet to find intolerances. (He uses a six-week FODMAP diet.)
Understanding that this is a chronic illness, but finding management techniques to live as normal a life as possible

Many thanks for posting this. Gastroenterologists who are actually qualified to treat microscopic colitis patients by recommending diet changes have traditionally been as scarce as hen's teeth on the West Coast.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks for posting....hope you do well!!! :) So wonderful to have found a gastro doc that acknowledges diet :)

My GI doc did tell me to stop gluten and dairy when I was diagnosed but he didn't offer anything further. I was actually surprised to here a traditional doctor mention food at all ;)

His name is Dr. Lee with Claremont Health in Mt. Kisco, NY.
