Vacation then thankfully back to normal :)

Post by LauraGld »

My husband and I went on a one week vacation two weeks ago. We rented our usual cottage on Cape Cod with kitchen and BBQ grill. When I left for vacation I was doing "well". Still on stage 1 with a few things added, I was having one movement a day...formed but soft. I also was having a perfect formed poop :bashful: every few days.

I was nervous about the variables of travel and especially eating out and backsliding in my healing. My husband works hard and this is his one week holiday and he loves to eat out, so there was no way I was going to take that away from him. He was happy to eat at the rental so we did a bit of both. When we ate breakfast out I would ask for eggs (which I'm ok with) using only olive oil. I have been able to add in a small amount of fruit (melon and some berries) and small slice of avocado. He would pick up lunch to go at our favorite take out by the bay in Wellfleet and we would go back to the rental where I would fix my safe lunch of sliced organic turkey with vegan mayo on a thin rice cake. He cooked some wonderful fish and veggies on the grill a few nights...well cooked veggies for me. When we would eat dinner out I would look for the simplest meal on the menu and the easiest for the chef to alter. I would look for a simple fish like cod, tuna, salmon etc and ask to have it cooked only with olive oil and veggies that I could manage. The veggies were always cooked beautifully but not soft enough for me so I would just ask to take the veggies home and cook them more at home....a bit of a pain but I ended up with a good meal and not making the chef crazy.

I did have looser poops as the week went on but never too bad. I still had one movement a day just not as firm as they had been. I am sure this had to do with stress and some cross contamination. Even when you get a lovely piece of fish or an omelet you can be sure they are cooked on a griddle not in individual pans, and the grill could have had some contaminates as well although we did lay down aluminum foil....these are the factors could have caused my very mild symptoms.

I have been home for a week now and am doing great!!!!!! After two days back at home I was back on track. The last 4 days I have had perfect poos once a day!!! So happy :) I am going to stay the course with my limited menu and if this continues I will begin to very slowly add some new foods🤞

I have been using food to heal for over a year......it takes time and it has it's ups and down but it is so worth it.

All the best, Laura

So glad you're doing well, Laura! It's wonderful to be able to go on vacation without experiencing lingering side effects!
