Helicobater pylori again
Hi all and in special Tex
I was not on the forum for a while. I hope You all are doing well.
More than 3 years ago I had a h. pylori infection and was treated with the double antibiotics. I had a very stressful period at that time.
the last period I had again more stress than usual and had again problems with mij oesophagus, especially at night and pain between my shoulderblades.
My doctor tested my blood for H. pylori and it is positive. Now I wonder if it is possible that the pylori is not present anymore but that the test was positive because of the past infection.
I want to be sure that I have an actual infection, because the antibiotics were not easy and I could not tolerate the proton pump.
Another question: is it possible that stress caused the return of the pylori?
Greetings
Sonja

Re: Helicobater pylori again
Hi there Sonja
from the reading I have done,
transmission is via kissing, contaminated food and water, poor hygiene. With the hand washing protocols and mask wearing during covid, it is interesting that you have the infection back.
of note having low levels of stomach acid you can be at higher risk of the H pylori infection.
(that being that those with normal and high levels of stomach acid the H pylori infection passes through, it doesnt stay)
Stress (physical and emotional) can impact production of stomach acid
Deficiencies in Zinc, B6 and Vit D3 can lead to low stomach acid / infection
My suggestion - rather than antibiotic route, start or increase intake of Zinc, B6 (via P5P), Vit D3
do some stress busting activities. (yoga, walking, crafts etc)
mental work at meal time - Be relaxed, look forward to the meal (this increases stomach acid), be relaxed whilst eating to optimise digestion
hope this helps

Re: Helicobater pylori again
Hello Sonja,
According to medical trials, that blood test is 93% accurate. But there are also three other tests that your doctor could order, two stool tests (PCR and antigen), and a breath test. These latter three tests are often used to confirm that an H. pylori infection is gone, after treatment.
Personally, I'm somewhat suspicious of an H pylori diagnosis, because most people can be shown to have H pylori in their stomach. So there's some question about what they consider to be a normal H. pylori population, and an infection. Medical treatments for H. pylori don't appear to be particularly effective, and some species are antibiotic resistant.
Because of all that, I tend to agree with Gabes, that natural treatment methods may be the better approach. if your symptoms don't improve with natural treatments, you may need to consider an antibiotic treatment, but I agree with you — I'd want to be mighty sure that I had an infection that needed to be treated, before I started an antibiotic treatment.

Never had H Pylori infection...but I do supplement my stomach acid with each meal taking Betaine HCl. So maybe that is something you want to try ? When I stop taking it my poop starts going the wrong way...no matter how much cholestyramine I take.

Hi Gabes, Tex and Laine,
Thank you very much for your reply.
I did not get an email to warn me that you reacted. I was disappointed, because I always rely on your quick reactions and to be sure I toke a look right now!
I should like to get emails again.
In the meantime I started this morning with the antbiotics. I remembered from the last time that Tex advised then to take them, but apparently his knowledge gained again!
But I have to say that I was tested because I asked for it, because of my complaints since a rather long period, which became more worse last month (which was stressful).
In general my life is not stressful the last time, because I am in peace with my life.
In april 2019 my son, with whom I have a very close relationship, left our earth. He leaded me to God/the spiritual world after his passing away and this gives me much peace. Nevertheless the earthly pain will always be a part of my life.
My life has changed completely since then.
I take the supplements Gabes advises, do yoga, swim 5 days a week for an hour (with afterwards sauna) and meditate daily for about two hours. I love walking. I don't work anymore, so that makes my life more easy. I said farewell to almost all my social involvements, don't go to party's and birthdays anymore (was always already difficult because of the food ). I keep strict to my diet. And this life is ok for me. I am happy and grateful about everything life brings me.
Last month was stressful because of the closing of the motorgarage of my son, which my daughter (with the help of my brother) took over after his passing away, but she is not able to get enough money out of it. I supported them financially, but in january we felt it was the time to stop. The cleaning up, selling and giving away all the technical things, which were so loved by my son and which was very, very important in his life, the last month, was stessefull. And I took care of the last things of the administration, what I also did his last two years, and al memories of that period returned. It was the last step in cleaning up his earthly property.
But for the h. pylori I will be tested after six weeks and then I will be very alert of symptoms returning.
Thank you once again, I am really happy with the support of the forum.
Love Sonja

Re: Helicobater pylori again
Hello Sonja,
After reading your last post, that included many of the details of the things you had to do after your son's passing, I feel that despite all the efforts you make to attempt to relax, the stress involved is bound to be taking a toll on your psyche. If you weren't doing so many things to relieve the stress, you surely would be having a complete relapse.
That's not to imply that you are not having an H pylori problem, but I have a hunch, that as the stress of the last few years fades, you will begin to feel better. Obviously, the events of the last few years will always be a part of your thoughts, but hopefully, time, and your spiritual faith will continue to heal your pain, so that your stress level will decline, your spirits will rise, and your health will improve, as this happens.
Incidentally, make sure the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box is checked in the list of options below, and to the left, of the "Submit" button, whenever you submit a reply, so that the system will send you a notification whenever a reply is posted.

Re: Helicobater pylori again
Dear Tex,
Thank you very much for your answer and yes, I think I will feel better the more time passes.
And I also think it is a wonder that I did not got a severe relapse.
We have here also the betaine hcl, also with pepsine. Maybe that is a good idea of Laine. What do you think of it?
Thank you, love

Hi Laine,
Thank you for the tip. I asked Tex about it, but it looks really good what I have been reading. Do you use it together with pepsine?

Yes, betaine HCl might be just what you need. Laine has a lot of experience with it. It should be worth a try, anyway.

Re: Helicobater pylori again
Hey Sonja ...
I heard about Betaine HCl here first and didn’t think much about it. I tried it initially after reading that low stomach acid could lead to a bunch of things...anxiety being one of them
So yes..I experimented for awhile with it. Even though I think I’m doing great, every time I decided to cut it out of my life, my poop quality would start going the wrong direction. So I take like 5 648mg capsules with large meals. It has pepsin in it also. I know that sounds like a huge amount to take, but that works for me..one or two doesn’t cut it ! I’ve decided I’m some sort of freak because I have to take 8-9 packets of cholestyramine a day also...and I’m a 120# woman

Sonja
if you are taking those supplements and having issues, consider increasing the dosage slightly.
From what you have said about some of the recent stress / grieving situation, your immune system may need the help.

Gabes,
Thank you very much for your reply.
What concerns the supplements you mentioned I can increase them.
I already take a rather high dose, but I found out that te save dose is higher than that. So that is really worth trying.

Re: Helicobater pylori again
Hi Tex, Gabes and Laie
I think maybe I have low stomach acid and I found out you can test this by taking a teaspoon of carbonate de sodium in the morning. I consider to do this after the antibiotcs and proton pump. But I wonder: is this safe for me?
Because I don't want to take the risk. I use carbonate de sodium in my bakings, but that is less in one time of course.

It should be very nice if this problem can be solved.
