Taking a teaspoonful of carbonate de sodium shouldn't cause any significant problems, if you're considering doing this only once — I wouldn't do that more than once or twice, though. Did I understand your post correctly, that you're taking a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)? PPIs will trigger microscopic colitis reactions for many of us, and PPIs are very addictive. Once you start taking them, they'll weaken your glorious esophageal sphincter (between your esophagus and your stomach), and you will have problems with acid reflux, and possibly GERD, after you try to wean off the PPI. Furthermore, weaning off PPIs is very difficult for most people, because with a weakened lower esophageal sphincter, you'll continue to have acid reflux problems until your lower esophageal sphincter is able to regain its strength, and that will take weeks to months. it should be illegal to prescribe PPIs for patients who have microscopic colitis, in my opinion.

Thanks for your answer. I don't take PPI, only at the moment because it belongs to the treatmen, which comes in one package: Panclamox. It has claritomycine 500 mg, amoxicilline 1000 mg and pantoprazol 40 mg.
Three years ago I had the same combination, but in stead of pantropozol something called omaprazol. I reacted very badly on omaprazol (oesophagusproblems and tinnitus which is still going on, but I got used to it) when I had to continue them after the treatment of one week.
Now my doctor insisted to take the total package, because otherwise it should not work optimally. I decided to try it and I would have stopped the ppi if I would have developed the same oesophagus problems of worsening of my tinnitus, but this did not happen. But I will certainly stop after this seven days.
The sodium is only a test for one time to find out if I have too low stomach acid. You take it and if you are going to burp after that, it means that you have a normal or high amount of stomach acid. If you don't burp then the stomach acid is too low.
In that case the betaine hcl is very useful, but I am going to take that anyway. Laine has convinced me to give it a try.

The current recommended daily RDA for zinc is 8mg for women.
For my combo of health issues I have been on high dose zinc for 8+ years.
my current maintenance dose via supplements (excludes intake via food) is about 60mg per day.
if my immune system is showing symptoms of issues I increase this to 90mg per day
if I drop below the 60mg within a couple of weeks I notice issues returning my fingernails is first indicator that I need more
(For the first few years I was on 120mg per day )
long story short - dont look at mainstream recommendations for dosages moreso Listen to your body!
(reputable supplement companies like Thorne have zinc in 30mg and 50mg capsules so this is indicator that many people need way more than 8mg per day!!)

If you have been deficient in zinc for a period of time, other minerals/metals will take zincs place in your cell. Part of fixing the zinc deficiency in the cells/body is that we have clear the other metals so Zinc can get where it needs to go. Magnesium and Molybdenum are key for this.

Thank you for this information. It helps me a lot. I am going to the shop to buy zinc. Solgar has 50 mg.
The information about the mental and hormonal consequences of zinc are very useful for me.
I use HRT for 11 years and of course my (anthroposophical) doctor wants me to stop and I know it is not good for my MC.
But I did very well on it for a long time and I know some people needs them a lifetime.
I tried several times to lower the dosis, but then I got my symptoms back en I became very depressed. So I am rather careful with discontinuing. Maybe it is the best for me to stop at once and see what happens, but I want to do that when I will be more stable then at the moment. Maybe zinc will help me with this issue. And I am also going to increase my intake of B6 (P5p). I am a little bit cautious with that because I have quickly fingertips, which loss their feeling easily, when it is a little cold.

If you mean "tingly" fingertips, That can be a sign of vitamin B-12 deficiency. But in order to to be able to use any B-12 in your diet effectively, you have to have at least a minimum amount of folate (vitamin B-9) in your system. In other words you might be deficient in B-12, or you might be deficient in folate. Or the problem might be that you have methylation issues, in which case you need to be taking the active forms of vitamins. Vitamins in food and normal supplements are in the inactive form, and over half of us have MTHFR gene mutations which cause us to have compromised methylation abilities, meaning that our bodies can't convert the inactive forms of these vitamins into the active forms so that our bodies can use them.
If we have methylation issues, and our doctor tests the levels of these vitamins, those levels will usually be in the high normal range, or above range, because our body is not able to utilize them, so they tend to build up, even though our body is starving for the active forms of these vitamins.

No, I have no tingly fingertips happily. My fingertips become easily cold and then they feel 'dead', no feeling in them.
I always buy good/expensive highly dosed foodsupplements. I know that the cheap ones are not good for me.
I take daily Vit B12 (methylcobalamine 58 mcg) and folate (400 mcg) in a multivitamin.
I bought several new supplements, which are advised by Gabes and Laine, and I hope that my situation improves.
Tomorrow is the last day of the antibiotics and the good news is that I have still normal stools. I also take probiotics (Solgar Advanced Multi-billion Dophilus) and I am sure that helps me. I used them earlier with good results. I know you are not a fan of probiotics, but I am convinced that they really help me when I have stool problems (WD).

I did the baking soda test first and then began taking the Betaine HCl...honestly, I don’t think one spoonful of baking soda in warm water is a big deal!
I started with like 2 capsules with each meal and adjusted up from there.

I did the baking soda test and nothing happened. So that means that my stomach acid is to low. I will repeat it in a week, because the use during one week of ppi (stopped on friday) maybe plays a role. But I will start now with the betaine hcl.
Something very strange happened: since the second day of use of antibiotics (and probiotics) my stools are better than the last 13 years.
I should appreciate it if anyone can tell me what is possibly the cause of that. Many people (without MC) react with D by the use of this double antibiotics. normally I have quickly loose stools (and worse) when I eat something with traces of something that I can't tolerate.
Maybe it is a kind of reset of my gut bacteria?
I had really nasty side effects of the antibiotics, which are partly still going on, especially vaginal mucus problems, but the stools....amazing.
