Rice Challenge (failed)

Post by jbrohlr »

Hello All.

This is more just "thinking out loud" but I thought someone might have some insight into what I've gotten myself into.

About 8 weeks ago I finally reached remission; normal stools, fatigue practically gone, and I gained several pounds.

So I decided to try jasmine rice (gluten free according to the label). Eight months ago I had a (1+) reactivity on rice, with a mean antigenic score of 28. I went on a 3 day rotation for 3 weeks and did not have a problem, got cocky and went to every other day and that's when the fireworks started. I stopped rice immediately once the diarrhea started. That was 3 weeks ago. Fatigue and weight loss have come back as well.

I switched to corn on the cob (had no reaction to corn on Enterolabs) but that just seemed to make things worse. Stopped corn 11 days ago.

The diarrhea has not been consistent - some days I'll have a watery stool once or twice, occasionally not at all. Then other days I will go 5 times in succession - usually calms down in the afternoon (but not always). Considered that it might be a type of constipation/diarrhea cycle but I have not had the discomfort that I'm used to with constipation.

Nothing else has changed. Still taking vitamin D3, still using Epsom salt baths and Mg lotion during the day. Only eating lamb and turkey right now from the same sources, and no body products other than Ivory soap.

This situation reminded me of Tex's trouble with the oats challenge he did 15 years ago. That took him six weeks to shake the diarrhea. I'm wondering if at three weeks of D I should start thinking about another cause such as somehow getting glutened (although for the life of me I don't know how). Hope I'm just being impatient. Is it normal to have one of the 11 antgenic food kick you out of remission this hard, for this long?

Very frustrating.

Best wishes

I basically avoid corn on the cob...no diarrhea but it comes out looking pretty close to how it went in! I’m fine with corn chips and corn tortillas ...just not whole corn
