MC Foundation

Post by Marcia K »

Hello. I read a scathing review in the FB group of an article written by the MC Foundation on Lifestyle Effects. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, posts such as that are not beneficial to anyone starting out on this journey who is trying to find the path to remission. The original poster was offended by the comment that being a perfectionist could be one of the factors leading to MC. Others took offense to that as well. I never thought of myself as a perfectionist until I did some soul searching & realized that it indeed is one of my underlying issues along with childhood stress. We live in the day of people being offended at every turn and I suppose it's the new norm. One of the commenters did say that she wrote to the Foundation to express her concerns about the article. I am very grateful for this forum and the MC Foundation because I live a normal life other than my diet due to your help!

Hello Marcia,

I spent most of the day yesterday responding to a series of emails from three different individuals from that Facebook gang. I'll be happy to forward any of those long conversations to you if you want something entertaining to read. But basically, you've hit the nail on the head. They're all perfectionists — very aggressive, type A individuals who prove by the very fact that they chose to pursue such a trivial point in the first place that they are indeed perfectionists. And their inability to discontinue the attack after the first email, proves that they are incapable of letting go of anything that bothers them — further proof that they are perfectionists, although all of them argued strongly against that definition.

All in all, it was a pathetic performance by people who should know better. One of them claimed to be a doctor. She hates the world, and apparently resents anyone who is able to get this disease into remission, because despite all her efforts, and all the medications she's tried, she's unable to control all of her own MC symptoms. She;s able to control some of them by taking a biologic. As self-centered as she is, I'd hate to be one of her patients.

I'll probably spend today wasting most of my time continuing to respond to their pathetic emails, but c'est la vie.

I read the post on the Facebook page. I thought the same thing, Marcia. I dismissed her comments. I have my own opinions. And my husband once said to me, you hadn't found this forum, you'd be dead!
Thanks to you Tex! And every idea people post on here. :bear:

mmm interesting that reality hit the nerve!
also interesting that there is no medication (quick fix) to resolve perfectionism - it takes personal change and effort ...

Good morning. You nailed it Tex when you said that she hates the world. Good grief! You're a trouper for replying to their emails. I can imagine what they were like! I will continue eating a limited diet and enjoying every day that I wake up! Have a great day everyone!

I must not be following that particular group on FB….I haven’t seen that yet.
Beyond that….that is very petty to start a dialogue over.
I love this very helpful MC forum group….without it I would have struggled a lot longer than I did.

Morning Erica,

I'm also a member of that group and I missed the dust up....so I went to search and entered "perfectionist" and voila...it came up first hit.

There seems to be one woman that is especially bothered by the article and some felt the wording was unfortunate.

I got exhausted just reading the replies...but all in all most people stood up for the article and what the gist of it was.

Phew....the lady that did the post was really stirring the pot ;)

Best, Laura

What I found interesting by the MULTIPLE comments by the unsettled person (who is an admin of the group) that she was possibly breaching the group rules of hate speech and bullying
and those that made the statement that whoever wrote the article could not have MC showed how narrow minded / blinded some of the contributors are!

(I joined the group to look at the shite she was posting after 2 days I am ready to quit)

the other recent post that someone had put up on the group asking what was the cause of their MC - I was tempted to put a reply lifestyle and perfectionism

Yipes, I didn't know she was one of the administrators....

I though it was a newbie with a bone to pick...... :hammer:

This sort of behavior is not typical of the group....sigh...

When I was diagnosed 8 years ago, I was so sick that I was wondering if I was dying. Finding this forum was the best thing that could have happened to me. I am so grateful to all of you for saving me, for all the advice and support over the years, allowing me to regain quality of life!
It hasn’t been easy, MC is acting up every so often, but I am able to lead an active life. None of which would be possible without you!
And yes, I have always been a perfectionist and am still working on letting perfectionism go…lots of work to still be done on that subject.
With love and gratitude,
Patricia ❤️
