So Happy!!!!!

Post by LauraGld »

Happy news,

I have added psyllium capsules to my meals and snack and am having freaking perfect poops!!!!!!!!! After much research an finally understanding the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber and reading the many posts from the group I decided to give it a try. I take 2 capsules with meals unless it's on the small size then I will take 1 capsule...I also take on capsule with a snack.

I am hopeful for the first time in a long time....thank you everyone for sharing your experience and research!

I have always managed my cc with a simple diet and have never taken medications. This addition to my diet is making a huge difference! Although I could stay stable for several weeks on my MC diet with one poop a day the consistency was usually loosely formed and sometimes a bit watery. Since I began the psyllium capsules I have well formed poos every morning for the last 7 days. I started adding the psyllium 8 days ago. I am hoping with my digestion slowing down my absorption of nutrients and calories will increase.

I started with a small dose not wanting to cause constipation, bloat or cramping.

I know we are all different so this may not work for everyone but I thought is was worth sharing. Hope this is helpful. Here is the product I am using....I like the capsules because I can judge how much to take according to the meal I'm eating. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00024D5IS?re ... prefix=psy

Here is a great article from the Cleveland Clinic specifically about MC :) Psyllium is mentioned under bulking agents. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/d ... ic-colitis

What do you think Tex and Gabes....interesting article yes?

All the best,

My impression is that article is definitely one of the most up-to-date, and accurate articles about MC that I have seen published by mainstream medical institutions, to date. That article still doesn't specifically address the depth of the problem with protein sensitivities, but it makes a very good start. At least they acknowledge that certain sensitivities are a major problem, and certain diets are helpful, which is a huge step forward. Kudos to the Cleveland clinic.

Regarding psyllium, yes, it's one of the better ways to bulk up stools. It doesn't address the cause of loose stools, but it does help to remedy them, especially if they are being caused by something other than inflammation.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I totally agree with you Tex....I was pretty surprised to see some of the things they included in the article. You could have knocked me over with a feather when they mentioned psyllium and diet :)

As far as the psyllium....I know that I still have to give my body the right foods to support low inflammation levels and to increase my chances of remission long term. In other words I'm still not going anywhere near lettuce ;) Finding a way to lessen the fluid in the stools and relieving the urgency is a such a relief.

All the best,

Morning Gabes,

So many different symptoms we all deal with.....

MC has such a large range of symptoms....I can't even imagine having C. My D has been like pure water and weight loss has been endless.

All the best,
