Why is most severe pain always at night?

Post by IlseC »

Tex and Team

I have been GF for about a month thanks for the great advice from this board. I'm basically Normn most of the days, some not so Normn but as we know with this disease in the beginning it is potluck.

The bloat and pain during the day is low. I also take a bath at night (around 7:30-8 pm) and I can predict around 8:30 I will start bloating and the pulling and pain then gets intense.

This is what times I eat:

9 am - Breakfast
1 pm - Lunch
6:30-:645 Dinner

What meal should I be looking at seems to be causing the night pain? I eat different meals depending on what I make. It could be Turkey and Rice, for breakfast it could be Coconut Yogurt with Berries (I'm suspecting the berries might be the issue, but they don't affect the BM) or it call be an Egg with Bacon (which seems to go well)

For lunch I either will have some GF Bread (from Trader Joe's no sugar) with some protein, either Tuna or Turkey.

I'm waiting for payday so I can order that Enterolab test. But wondering given that I can predict when the pain starts what meal might be the culprit?

Thanks so much for the guidance!

Our accumulated experience shows that most gluten reactions start about 3 to 6 hours after gluten was ingested. Casein based reactions can be up to a day or even more after it was ingested. I'm not sure how long it takes for soy or egg based reactions to start. Reactions to the sorbitol in grapes, for example, usually start in about 3 to 6 hours, but I'm not sure how long it takes to react to berries. Sorry that I could be more helpful.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex, that at least will give me some "baseline" to go look and see what I'm eating at lunch or afternoon snack that is triggering the pain.

Keep a journal and try eliminating 1 food for 1 week (for example rice). Sometimes foods start bothering us that never did before. Oddly, I was getting a side pain on and off and it would usually come on late afternoon and evening. I started eating 1 sheep milk yogurt (unsweetened) each day and the pain went away. I couldn’t get to the store and missed eating my yogurt for a week and noticed that the pain started coming back. In my case, it seemed to be that the good bacteria in the yogurt keeps the pain away (bad bacteria I’m guessing ).

Thanks so much. I actually removed Greek Yogurt and have been eating Coconut or Almond Milk yogurt. I also made my own GF bread today, Made the Paleo muffins and finally ordered my EnteroLabs tests.
