Questions about my son
Hi all,
I hope to find everyone well. I wanted to ask a question about my son. He has been gluten and dairy free now for a year, but he is still having 2-3 bowel movements a day. He hasn't been diagnosed with MC (only me). He was on the constipated side and having bad cramps, before he was gf and df. We also did the entrolab testing which showed the gf and df intolerances. He also had chicken a +3, so we alternate it. His total number for that section was 16. It is hard to completely keep chicken out of his diet. Also beef was a +2. He has to eat a lot. We alternate with beef and chicken. In addition he eats a lot of turkey. He doesn't have any cramping either, he just goes to the bathroom more than he wants to. He is 16 and that is embarrassing for him at school. Do you think he is still reacting to something? Or do you think that is just his norm now while off of gf and df.
He faired on the constipated side prior to his diet. He doesn't have diarrhea or cramping and can hold it if he needs to, but not for very long. I appreciate any insight.
Thank you,

Re: Questions about my son
Hello Martha,
I see that no one has tackled this question, so I'll take a shot at it. If his EnteroLab score on the 11 other antigenic foods was 16, that's high enough to cause problems with +3 foods, and even some +2 foods. Or, it's possible that something else in his diet might be causing it. But if his diet hasn't changed other than the types of meat in his meals, then his bowel pattern shouldn't have changed from what it was before the food sensitivity problems began. I would try avoiding the +3 foods for a few days to see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, then I would try avoiding the +2 foods for a few days.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Re: Questions about my son
Thanks Tex for your response. Prior to his diet of gf and df, he was very constipated and cramped horribly only to go very little, but would try often. Along with being gf and df, we took chicken out of his diet for a week and it didn't change his bowel movements. Beef is +2 and he doesn't eat it very often maybe 3 times a week.

Re: Questions about my son
Diary products are constipating for many people. Perhaps his digestive system just needs more time to learn how to adjust to a more "normal" schedule. Then again, maybe this is his normal schedule. Although everyone seems to believe that one bowel movement per day is normal, if you study animals and their bowel habits, you discover that their bowel movement patterns depend mostly upon their diet, but the pattern sometimes varies among individuals.

Yes He is Gabes.
Tex, He does eat a lot of protein and more than 3 meals a day. I honestly don't know where he puts all of the food. He is a very active basketball player and needs the food, I guess. He doesn't eat many vegetables, mainly starches and carbohydrates. I am going to up his vegetable intake to see what happens.
Thank you!

Re: Questions about my son
Starches and carbs can create a lot of stool volume, if he eats a substantial amount of them.
