Meat Advice

Post by crervin »

Hi All,

I need advice on what meat/protein to eat. Since going through menopause, my histamine intolerance has significantly gotten worse and sadly, it was already bad to begin with. It's been over a year since I have eaten red meat due to causing migraines. My go to safe meat has always been ground turkey but recently, it can't be tolerated. It causes gas, cramping, and itching. I couldn't tolerate the turkey this year from Thanksgiving. Maybe because I did have to let it thaw for several days, causing it to have more histamines?? I eat mostly from frozen. I have also tried deer meat and it causes migraines. I am to the point of thinking I need to go vegetarian, but have no idea on how to do that with my disease. I do tolerate vegetables much better than meat now. Anyone, struggle with this and have any insight on how to deal with this?

I appreciate your help,
Martha E.

Martha,

I find that as my histamine problems increase, it's easier to initiate a reaction, and reactions last longer. A reaction may not begin for over 30 hours after an exposure, but then it will last for three or four days and any re-exposure during that time will extend and amplify the reaction, as you're probably well aware. I have long suspected, and recently proved to myself, that a hot shower can restart a previous reaction that had appeared to have been resolved.

I assume you saw the latest newsletter that was published on December 1 by the Microscopic Colitis Foundation regarding histamine reactions. In case you missed it, here's a link where you can read or download a copy:

https://www.microscopiccolitisfoundatio ... 1692bc.pdf

The main point I'm making here, is if you happen to be taking a DAO supplement, that might be the cause of your worsening histamine problems, as discussed in that newsletter article.

The problem with trying to get enough protein from plants, is that most of the protein sources in conventional foods made from plants are based on wheat gluten, soy, or legumes, and that's the primary problem with the GMO-based fake meats discussed in the previous two newsletters. Have you tried rabbit? If I recall correctly, that's kind of a light colored meat that might be different enough that it might work.

Thanks Tex, no on the DAO supplement. When I took those, it only delayed my reaction. Once the supplement was out of my system I had major D. I couldn’t figure out if it was from the ingredients in the pill or the histamine intolerance.

I do take hot showers, so I will check into that. I really need to fast for a few days to get everything out of my system and start over with 2 or 3 ingredients.

I just bought some frozen Cornish hens, going to test them again. I probably need to take zyrtec a couple of days before I test it. Zyrtec helps my reaction really well, I just try to not depend on it unless it’s my last resort.

I have also acquired in the last year, eyelid dermatitis, tender gums, and a reoccurring mouth sore. The mouth sore has came back 3 times in the last 4 months. I notice it’s when there is extra spice like pepper on my chicken. My husband loves pepper! It’s been pretty bad. I have never had tender gums or mouth sores. I thought it may be due to a vitamin C deficiency so I have started making sure I include that in my supplements. So far it hasn’t helped though.

Those additional symptoms might all be due to excess mast cells.

Thanks Tex! It's a chronic problem for me. I am going to start zyrtec today. I was so hoping by now I would have found a way to get this under control.

Does anyone have any vitamin C supplement suggestions?

Does anyone have any advice on soothing/healing irritated gums? My mouth sores/irritated gums are getting worse instead of better. It's like a whole layer of skin is gone from the inside of my cheek. I believe its attributed to the high unavoidable stress in my life right now. Stress has been going on as long as my mouth sores. I just realized the correlation. I have started taking the 1,000 mg solaray vitamin c supplements, along with methy guard plus and zyrtec. However, I am only taking 1 methyl guard plus as opposed to the recommended 3 pills. I thought I would start slow. I also take 8,000 units of vitamin d3, remyte, and 200-300 mg of magnesium daily. I am thinking about going to the dr today to see if they could help ease the symptoms until I get the stress and gut under control. I have tried warm salt rinses, hydrogen peroxide, mouthwash, and chlorohexidine. I am out of the chlorohexidine now though. I am hoping the zyrtec eventually helps too. I appreciate any advice or help you can give! Eating has become very painful and not just due to my gut.

Update after posting, I think I am allergic to toothpaste now. I have the symptoms including dry cracked lips :mallet: Anyone else ever had this problem?

thanks
Martha E.

When I was in my 20s, I developed an allergy to Scope mouthwash. I had been using it probably for at least 10 years with no problem. All of a sudden, one morning I noticed that my mouth was burning after I used it, but I didn't pay much attention at the time. The next morning, when I poured a slug of Scope in my mouth and sloshed it around, my mouth suddenly felt as if it were on fire. I spit the stuff out, and the fire slowly died down. I never used it again, and never had the problem again.

Zinc lozenges. I herb have MC safe ones

CoQ10

https://www.organico.ie/news/2022/01/21 ... naturally/
Periodontal disease is basically an inflammatory disease where the body’s reaction to toxins in the mouth creates inflammation, which results in the destruction of the gum and bone around the teeth.

One Boston dentist says that CoQ10 is an anti-inflammatory and appears to work to directly bring down inflammation in the gums, reducing bleeding, repairing pockets and overall improving the condition of gums.

Interestingly, studies show that the effect of CoQ 10 on gum health can take place in as little as a month.

Thanks guys!

As I have thought about it, this all started when my dentist told me to start using sensodyne toothpaste about 6 months ago. For my lifetime, I only have used crest whitening. I should have known not to change anything. I have discontinued the sensodyne for a while, but the inflammation won't stop. This all started when my stress started too. It is probably the result of both. I just can't seem to get my gums to stop reacting. The irritation is only where my teeth touch my gums. I have tried a new toothpaste since that doesn't contain flouride and am sure it is causing me to react as well. Now I am just using baking soda until I can get this resolved.

Gabes, do you take CoQ10? If so, which one do you use? I am getting really close to going to the doctor to see if I can get a steroid shot. This is getting old.

Thank you again for your help!

I take ubiquinol.

I wonder if there is a steroid cream that can be applied to the gums. Your doctor, or a dentist might know.

I do take CoQ10. the brand is Australian based one so I dont think it is available in the USA.

It is one of the only ones here that does not have soy in it.
