I need help

Post by devincentisg »

 Hi I am so happy I found this group. I have been suffering with diarrhea for the last 4 years. Diagnosed with Sibo then C-Diff twice. Gastro did another colonoscopy and diagnosed me last week with MC. He sent in a prescription and that’s it. SMH nothing about food issues etc. just take a pill. I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was 14 years old. Been on many medications including years of steroids etc. I have been following FODMAP for 3 years. I can’t do veggies , gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, I’m on cymbalta for the past 10 years as well as Plaqunal. I don’t know what else to do. I’m currently taking pepto which helps but I have tinnitus and the ringing is crazy. Not sure if pepto making it worse. Ugh. How long do I go on like this? Especially when doc doesn’t even recognize other issues/dietary restrictions. My NP told me just eat what you want?! Ugh I guess I just need to vent. It’s such an isolating disease. Gina

Hello Gina,

Welcome to the group. I'm not a doctor, so this is only my opinion, based on our shared experiences. You appear to be already avoiding all of the main food sensitivities that cause us to react, so your continuing reactions are almost surely due to the Cymbalta. In fact, the Cymbalta very likely caused the development of your microscopic colitis, in the first place. I doubt that you can discontinue taking Cymbalta cold turkey, so you may need to check with your doctor on how to taper off of it in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms, or rebound effects.

Most of us are vitamin D and magnesium deficient, because the disease causes those deficiencies, and those deficiencies are also the reason for the increased risk that causes many of us to initially develop autoimmune diseases in the first place. Magnesium deficiency is associated with every disease known to medical science, because adequate magnesium is necessary to enable our bodies to convert vitamin D into the active form so that our immune system can use it to protect us from disease. Therefore, either magnesium or vitamin D deficiency can cripple our immune system. Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hello,

Pepto is linked to causing tinnitis. It is a posted side effect.

You might try cholestyramine. It is prescription but pretty benign. My PCP prescribed it.

Some prescription meds cause MC.

If you don't have Tex's book it is a good read. I believe there is a link to Amazon at the top.
