Recovery diet using Enterolab results

Post by OrchidDeb »

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with LC and have had chronic diarrhea for more than 20 years. So far, I have been unable to achieve normal bowl movements, but the Budesonide seemed to help until the tapering period. Now, I am increasing the Budesonide again and want to go back to a recovery diet.

Is it ok to use pork as one of my proteins? Enterolab showed NO negative reaction to pork.

Thanks so much!

Sure, any food with a negative Enterolab result should be safe. Good luck with your recovery.

Hi,

My Enterolab results report that I am 2+ reactive to Tuna.
Should I avoid Wild Cod as well in my recovery diet?

Thank you!

Probably, but that may depend upon your overall score for the 11 antigenic foods. if it's 10, or less, those foods may not be a problem.

Hi,

The Mean Value for 11 Antigenic foods is 13 on my Enterolab results. So, I will avoid cod and white fish.

My recovery diet is simple: pork roast, lamb, cooked root vegetables (sweet potatoes, squash, turnips), banana, perhaps mashed potatoes and sun-butter. All test ok on Enterolab.

Is the answer to the length of the recovery diet = results? Is there an average amount of time that I should hope for positive results?

I am taking 4.5 mg of Budesonide daily and back down to two-three diarrhea movements a day (from 10-15 on my recent flare) and the nausea is almost gone, so I know I'm on the right track.

My goal is to have a more formed stool and taper off successfully - adding a few more food choices one at a time.

Thanks for all your support and this wonderful information resource!

there is no black and white fixed time period
everyone is different, depends on age, lifestyle, diet, other health issues,

Healing takes time - again this depends on how long you have had inflammation, and the right nutrients to help the body/gut heal

when we break a bone, it is immobilised for 6-8 weeks and then it can take another 4-8 weeks before it is fully strong
as we can not immobilise the gut per say, so healing can take longer.

expanding from the bland diet too early can undo the healing done so far.
Are you taking Vit D3 and magnesium?

I've had chronic diarrhea for over 20 years. A very long time.
Yes, I was very deficient in Vitamin D3 and I've been diagnosed with osteopenia now - so yes on the Magnesium Bisglycinate and Calcium citrate.
I also take Iron 3x week (blood tests noted deficiency), Thorne Methyl-Guard Plus (Wayne Persky book), and AREDS2 for macular degeneration.
Lastly I take Thorne Women's +50 Multivitamin, Vitamin K-2, and Vitamin C.

Hoping a bland and simple diet of 2 proteins: lamb and pork roast / plus cooked vegetables: sweet potatoes, zucchini, squash, turnips / plus occasional gold potato and banana will get me healed and calm.

Thank you!

how much essential magnesium are you having per day??

something to be aware of, calcium does not build bones. Vit D3 and magnesium are essential for building bones.
taking calcium supplements will deplete magnesium

the other aspect to this is that the cell needs magnesium to use the Vit d3 in the cell.

long story short.
Focus on Vit d3 and magnesium intakes.
it can take 3-6 months to fix deficiencies

Oh, dear.
I take a lot of vitamins and try to address multiple medical maladies. I well might be doing a lot wrong.
I have osteopenia too.

Calcium / Magnesium Supplements I take:
1. THORNE Multi vitamin = 240 mg Calcium malate and 180 mg Magnesium malate
2. NOW Calcium-Citrate (1.5 scoops) = 600 mg Calcium citrate
3. SOLARAY Cal-Mag = 250 mg Calcium carbonate and 125 Magnesium (chelated oxide)
4. NATURE'S BOUNTY: Calcium = 600 mg Calcium carbonate
5. THORNE Magnesium Bisglycinate (1 scoop in water) = 200 Magnesium Bisglycinate
6. JIGSAW MagSRT: 125 mg Magnesium malate
7. MERCOLA L-Threonate = 2,000 mg Magnesium L-Threnonate.

So, the daily totals = 1,690 mg Calcium and 2,630 Magnesium

Vitamin D = Daily 10,000 iu 3 x a week / 8,000 iu 4 x a week
My lab tests indicate that my bone density stats are improving and that Vitamin D is still low, but in the "normal" range.

Also take:
1. AREDS 2 for my eyes (maclear degeneration)
2. Vitamin C
3. IRON (3 x a week) - have increased to the "low end of normal" on lab tests
4. L-Glutamine
5. Vitamin K-2
6. Thorne Methyl-Guard Plus (for Betaine, Folate, Vitamin B-12)

Gabes, thank you for your time.
I welcome any advice - I am very fatigued most days and have not been able to get control on my chronic diarrhea.

7. MERCOLA L-Threonate = 2,000 mg Magnesium L-Threnonate.

My suggestions
FIRSTLY. need to check the 'Elemental dosage' of magnesium for all these products. 180mg of magnesium malate may only be 50mg of elemental magnesium

Secondly suggest you stop the no. 3. solaray product - magnesium oxide has laxative effect
and the 6. Jigsaw magnesium Malate product may also have laxative effects
No. 7. The 2000 mg of magnesium L threnonate is only providing about 144mg of elemental magnesium

For People with MC magnesium Glyncinate is a better choice as it is least likely to cause laxative impacts.

Is there any way that you can adjust the calcium and magnesium intake so you are only taking
ONE calcium product and ONE oral magnesium Glyncincate product
rather than this mish mash of different brands and types of magnesium???

Aim to have 600mg of elemental magnesium per day

I'll add an observation about the magnesium threonate. It's a horse of a different color. I take magnesium threonate, because it helps to minimize some of the residual effects of my stroke, and it helps with cognizance and memory, in old, worn-out brains. After doing some experimenting, I can't see that it has any effect on the things that other magnesium supplements affect. In other words, all the magnesium threonate I take seems to go to my brain, and central nervous system. Therefore, I treat it separately, and don't even consider my magnesium threonate dose to be part of my magnesium supplement dose. I've been in remission for over 18 years, so I take three 100 mg Doctors Best brand magnesium glycinate tablets, and three magnesium threonate capsules, daily, one of each following each meal.

Yes, I would LOVE to consolidate my supplements as well as make sure I am taking vitamins that will make a difference.

Multi-vitamin: THORNE WOMEN'S OVER 50 - includes Calcium malate and Magnesium malate.
I will stop using that and substitute for AMY MYERS Multivitamin

CALCIUM: I will delete all except the NOW Calcium-Citrate = 600 mg Calcium citrate daily

MAGNESIUM: I will delete Solaray, Nature's Bounty and Thorne
Doctors Best brand = Magnesium lysinate glycinate chelate
Is that the one I should look at?
Veggie caps (easier for me to swallow) - 2 caps = 105 mg / so I would need to take 12 capsules daily?
The tablets are 2 = 200 mg / so I would only have to take 6 tablets daily
I believe that Doctors Best are 100% magnesium?, but I do not see that they say "Elemental Magnesium" anywhere.

Am I on the right track?

Yes you are on the right track

yes doctors best is 100% magnesium and a more usable form of magnesium
spread the dosage throughout the day

I think changing these supplements will help the gut and help your bones
