Recently diagnosed with Collagenous Colitis last Monday

Post by klewis1991 »

Hello all,

I'll try to keep this short. Here to hear from others with this condition.

Starting last Spring of 2022, I started having digestive upsets with nausea like once per week, which of course, I brushed it off as everyone gets occasional digestive upsets. As the Spring and Summer transpired, it became more frequent and very intense, until finally during the fall, it turned into every day and multiple episodes per day of bonkers digestive issues with nausea. And if I did vomit, nothing but yellow stuff would come out. I lost a total of 30 pounds, and fully unable to gain back any weight. Then also ended up fully dehydrated 2 different times, where IV fluids had to be administered in urgent care. Basically, I turned into a trainwreck.

My Primary Doc had me try several things, had my GallBladder checked, then eventually a CT scan which showed inflammation. Finally had a colonoscopy very recently with biopsies, which then show Collagenous Colitis. GI Specialist has now put me on Busesonide, along with many follow up appts to come.

I've now been on Busesonide for several days, and it appears to have shut it all down. Huge releif so far and keeping my fingers crossed! I never, ever, imagined such hell. I physically turned into a trainwreck. I was 185 lbs up until this started. Down to 155. I'm glad I found this forum to do some research!

Welcome to the Forum. It's too bad that it took a year to get diagnosed, as you went through a lot of suffering. But now that you know, you can work on getting your health back. Budesonide is the drug of choice for MC, and I'm glad it is working for you. But if you have done much reading on the Forum, you know that once you stop taking budesonide, you will most likely relapse if you haven't addressed the underlying food sensitivities. Virtually everyone is sensitive to gluten, so eliminating that is pretty much a given.

The most efficient way to identify other food sensitivities is through Enterolab testing. This is much faster than an elimination diet.

The Microscopic Colitis Foundation website is a good source of information too. You can also access all the past copies of the monthly newsletter that discusses a lot of different topics related to MC. https://www.microscopiccolitisfoundatio ... etter.html

We are here to answer any questions you might have, and to support you on your journey back to health!

Hi,

Welcome aboard, and best of luck on your journey back to health. Please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
