I got glutened

Post by dianebarkeridaho »

I got glutened and it was my own fault. I have followed the advice on this forum regarding gluten and dairy and soy. And….I got so much better for five weeks! Then, while traveling I had a subway sandwich on a regular bun because they did not have GF. I thought, what the heck, it will be an experiment, I can handle diarrhea for a day if this fails. Well, it is 5 days since I had that bun and things are all out of whack. Can anyone tell me how long a setback like this might last?

 Anti-gliadin antibodies have a 120 day half-life, and eating a whole bun was a big exposure. Hopefully it won't last much longer, but that's impossible to predict.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

For future eating out - I would avoid subway at all costs

yes they have gluten free bread, but the preparation is done where gluten filled rolls have been, they use same boards, tongs, knives etc
so it is not really gluten free - moreso it is 'reduced gluten' via a bucket load of cross contamination

the article in the MC foundation newsletter last year gives a very good graphical indicator of gluten contamination what 10mg of gluten looks like and what 50mg of gluten looks like
