Having both CC and LC

Post by cab61 »

I'm just curious. I have both CC & LC and most of the posts I've read it's either one or the other. Is it unusual to have both or is fairly common? I was diagnosed in 2019 and cannot find anything regarding having both. I also have Sjogrens & Subacute cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus (SCLE).

LC is medically described as lymphocytic infiltration of the epithelia of the colon that exceeds 20 lymphocytes per 100 enterocytes (special elongated cells that comprise the epithelia of the colon — these cells allow the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream from the colon through the spaces [tight junctions] between the cells). LC is the initial stage of the disease. CC is described as thickened subepithelial (in the lamina propria) collagen layers that exceed 10 microns (micrometers) in thickness. A micrometer is 0.001 mm, or about 0.000039 inch.

Usually, after time passes, the "mature" phase of the disease is CC. However, the disease can segue from one form to the other at any time. In most CC cases, lymphocytic infiltration is also present. However, when thickened collagen bands can be observed, many pathologists refer to the disease as CC, while others simply refer to either form of the disease as MC, because they're all alternate forms of the same disease. In other words, there's no consistency with the way that pathologists refer to this disease.

I hope I haven't just confused the issue.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
