Lunch with My Son

Post by Marcia K »

Hello! We don't get to see our son very often so when he asked us if we wanted to go along for lunch on his birthday I wasn't going to say no. Then came the "I'm not sure there will be anything there that you can eat" remark. I checked online & the only "safe" item was a salad, which I still don't eat very often even at almost 10 years with this disease. I ordered the salad with no croutons & who would have thought that they would put a small bun on the side of the salad plate! Yikes! I asked the server to remove the bun & I knew exactly where it was located so I didn't eat anywhere near where it was & I was fine. I don't like to waste food, but I only ate about 1/2 of the salad just to be cautious. I had taken tuna along to add to it for my protein. I also realized that they probably made my salad without changing the gloves they were wearing to make sandwiches. I'm very grateful that it turned out as well as it did and any time that we can spend with our son & daughter-in-law in priceless. I hope you're all having a great week!

When people talk about meeting up for lunch I always check venue menus and try and sway the choice to a venue that I know has something other than Salad!
I have also taken avocado with me to lunches to boost protein level !!

That's a great idea, Gabes. I didn't think of avocado!

Hi Marcia,

Thank you for sharing this.
I really can imagine you did not want to disappoint your son and therefore made this decision. happily this adventure had a good end.
But it illustrates very well the stress we can get in this kind of situations and then the food is not so tasty as it is at home, when we made it ourselves. So we need very good reasons to eat outside!
Last week i was three nights away in a cloister (for a Gregorianchant festival in a big city). I made all my food in advance and was allowed to use the cooling. Everything went well and my intestines were quiet. That gave me a very good feeling.
Also because of the environment I had the opportunity to be relaxed, but I also felt so happy that I did not have to worry about getting problems, like D. And therefor it was nog problem for me to miss all the prepared meals. Since some time i Always eat alone and I begin to appreciate this more and more.

Hi, Sonja! I'm so glad you had a wonderful time away! Being able to relax & enjoy without thinking about what we will eat is truly a wonderful experience that too many take for granted! We're going away for a few days next week & we'll be staying in a bungalow with all of the comforts of home. No worries & I'll be taking my safe food along. It will just be my husband & me so I won't have to think about anyone else. It will be wonderful to stick my toes in the sand & listen to the sound of the ocean. True peace!
