Coronavirus in the gut

Post by Greengoddess »

I can’t imagine this is good news for those with MC. The virus persists up to seven months. It makes me wonder if our MC is triggered by a virus in the first place.

I wondered that too especially when I had virus October 2022. My Covid was mild though and I had a stomach virus at the same time,( my symptoms were very mild as well) I did receive Covid vaccine plus 1 booster in December 2021. My stools softened up in November and continued thru May when I got my colonoscopy and MC diagnosis. I had suspected a bacterial infection set off my inflammation in colon from start as I don’t have any other health issues and rarely take meds. I am lucky though that I never experienced and bad WD at any time. I’ll be interested to see my colonoscopy results at my doc appointment in mid August. I have been gf/df/sf since diagnosis and my stools have firmed up. Thanks for posting article-I still believe there’s a connection :(

Hello:

I share your sentiment - my issues and journey align exactly post COVID (2x vax + 2x caught virus). Prior to this super robust system and health in general (marathoner / triathlete). My gastro and general doctor have no opinion on this. Whether COVID as culprit or not doesn't really matter I guess, "it is what it is" ☺

MC can be caused by any source of chronic inflammation, including bacteria, viruses, parasites, certain medications, and stress. Many people developed MC when they stopped smoking, for example.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
