Frustrated

Post by celia »

The old middle of the night can't go back to sleep pain and burning phenomena has been bothering me for the last week or so. I thought it was some foods I am testing, but that's over and I can't get clear.

I started some new supplements whe I got back from vacation. Duh! Last night I looked and one of them has glucosum. Some combo of destrose and dextrin. Sigh. A few days ago I also found a discrepancy between the ingredient list on my daily supplement bottle and on the manufacturer's website. Once says no milk and the other says nonfat milk in the probiotic.

I'm angry with my naturopath for not being more careful, but I realize you can't really rely on anyone but yourself. I need to be more consistent and thorough in checking.

These pain episodes are so discouraging for me. It takes days to figure out what the cause is and by then I feel slightly miserable.

Oh well...at least I know I can get clear now, not like in the old days when nightly pain and no sleep was the norm.

Be well, Celia

Morning, Celia,

Please don't beat yourself up about oversights such as those. We all do it occasionally, and while it's frustrating, and agravating, it makes us better detectives, and it helps to make us more confident in our ability to ferret out
such problems in the future. What's really frustrating is when it takes months, (or even years), to find the problem.

Finding safe supplements remains one of the most persistent stumbling blocks for many of us. Manufacturers don'y help any by sometimes changing ingredients without warning.

Hi Celia,

I hope your pain is beginning to go away - you must be tired w/o getting quality sleep.

It is very frustrating that ingredient lists often are long and difficult to read - I have given up on supplements. It isn't a big loss to me any more but at the time the MC hit and I was trying to get the diet under control I was taking approx 8 different kinds every day. When I say I have given up on them it is also partially because I am not sure I need them. If you want some good "clean" supplements the Freeda Vitamins that you can get online are a good choice - I have some in my cabinet that I took for a while before I decided not to take supplements. Google them. I may start to take some of the supplements again one day; perhaps I will get afraid that my nutrition isn't good enough and start to take something......

I think you just gained a valuable insight about who to rely on and who not to rely on when it comes to your diet - it is next to impossible to trust anyone but oneself. I do understand that you are angry with your Naturopath - but next time he/she recommends something that you take orally don't take it before you have double checked every ingredient. That's just part of our lives - having to do those little things; no big deal

Love,
Karen

Celia...I can Identify with the "No sleep" thing. If My insomnia doesn't keep me awake...Mike, jasmine or Buck will with the snoring Thing. That's the pits when The dogs rival your husband on the snoring. I have invesyed in ear plugs but some nights when My allergies are up my ears hurt and don't want ear plugs in them. I hope you feel better soon Celia.

Celia,

Like Karen I also stopped all supplements. Just too many unknown triggers in them. I do take a Freeda multivitamin when I remember to. Mainly for the vitamin D.

Have you gotten Cordain's book yet? He shows in there how the caveman diet meets all of the requirements for all nutrients (except vit. D of course) - including trace minerals I believe. Of course, I realize you are not yet at the point where you can tolerate lots of fruits/veggies. I do think that will change, however, as your gut heals. Slow process, unfortunately.

I hope things are improving.

Love,

Polly

Polly and Karen,

It would be nice to just drop the vitamins but testing has shown low levels of minerals so I need to keep going to boost them up. I will be retested in a few weeks to see if they have come up to normal.

I don't have a problem with most vitamins if I check the labels and make sure they are hypo-alergenic. In this case, it clearly said 'glucosum' on the box, but I failed to check because (1) I trusted my naturopath not to order vitamins with sugar for me...guess that's too much to expect! and (2) I'm taking two of their other supplements which are in the same form (purified water) and neither have glucosom.

So I made an assumption and didn't check. I will try to remember that in the future!

Polly, everyday I got out to my mailbox with great anticipation and the book is not there. Technically, since it was sent by book post, it can take up to 21 days. Usually, I get most books in 3-5 days. But because I REALLY want this one...well you know how it goes! Guess I'll have to pretend I'm not looking forward to getting it, and then it will show up in a snap.

Thanks for everyone's care and support! This has been a tough week. I think I need to go back to the most simple, simple food to get clear.

Hugs, Celia

Thanks Jill!

I can report that there is life after ingesting glucosum. Yesterday was not good. I had abdominal pain and felt very emotional and overwhelmed.

This morning I work up sane again. I even slept until 8 am and had no pain in the night. If I can just stay on this track, I will be fine. The Natural Calm really helped me sleep too.

Warm wishes to all, Celia
