Pescatarian with MC flare up
Pescatarian with MC flare up
I was diagnosed with MC about 8 years ago and had bowel cancer in 2010 resulting in an illeostomy followed by reversal. I have to self-irrigate as the tumour was in my rectum which has been severly reduced now so have no "storage"! I have been able to manage flare-ups, usually in 10/14 days, the and had not experienced one for the last 18 months, in fact I had almost forgotten about it. However, I am in the midst of one now. I am a pescatarian and have studied diet regimes online many of which conflict slightly. I have also taken loperamide in the past when needed which has worked instantly but this time doesn't have the same effect. I put myself on a low fibre, white diet (everything I don't normally eat) and this has always solved the problem. I make sour dough bread. How long is it safe to take loperamide? The leaflet says only for 48 hours but have taken for longer before. It's at night when I have the problems. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Jean
Re: Pescatarian with MC flare up
Some here have taken loperamide for years. It seems to be relatively safe as long as the daily maximum dose is not exceeded, and there are no side effects. If you take more than you need, it can cause constipation.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
