Could it have been Glutenease?

Post by Pam V »

Hi All ~. After posting a few weeks ago when I was in the midst of a flare that I couldn’t calm down, I started to feel much better about 7-10 days ago. Norman came back (yay!) and I no longer needed Imodium. I continued to eat cautiously but started expanding my diet from the very basics successfully. I had seen a post on here about Glutenease so I ordered some to take as a preventative. Last night we went to dinner at a restaurant where I have eaten very successfully and they know and are careful about my allergies. I took a Glutenease before ordering. I ate plainly ~ a hamburger on a plate and a small side salad with no dressing. I felt fine after eating. This morning, I switched up my morning beverage from plain green tea (which I had switched to when problems began awhile back) and had coffee with Silk almond creamer (which I have previously used without problems). I started feeling pressure in my belly and am very sad to be back to needing an Imodium after the return of diarrhea. I guess I realize it could be a number of things ~ last nights dinner being cross contaminated, the almond creamer that was previously okay, or maybe even the Glutenease. I did Google side effects of Glutenease and I saw GI issues including diarrhea as one of the possibilities. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on Glutenease or my current situation.
Thank you!

Are you sensitive to soy? The Silk creamers all contain pea protein.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I am, Tex! I had googled “pea protein” to check for soy and got info that it was soy free. I should know by now not to believe everything I read. The word “pea” did jump out to me as something I shouldn’t have and I should have gone with my gut. I’ve been back in green tea and things are better. I will try coffee without the Silk creamer in a few days. Thank you so much for your guidance! Best wishes to you and thank you for all you do to share information with this forum.

Hi, Pam. I'm sorry that the D returned. I take Glutenease whenever I dine out & I have never had any issues with it. I started using it after someone in our group recommended it. I hope you're back to normal soon. Our Infection Control Nurse at work always said not to eat salad when dining out, it could be the culprit.

Hi, Pam. Pea protein tears up my gut & they're adding it to everything these days! I could tolerate SO coconut milk ice cream on occasion but after wondering why my stomach hurt after I had some I read the label - pea protein. Sigh. I hope you're feeling better by now.
