Yellow substances in feces

Post by EricGrau »

Hello g afternoon, does anyone see yellow substances in their feces? Did they discover its causes? I think it may be some bile salts, but my CT scan, etc., supposedly gave everything ok.
Thank you

That's a very common symptom of MC. Bilirubin is responsible for changing stool color from yellow to brown, but that's a time-dependent process, so the fast turnaround due to the rapid transit caused by MC doesn't allow sufficient time for the bilirubin to complete the color change. Also, as you suggest, the inflammation that causes MC also causes malabsorption. Normally, 90% of the unused bile salts are reabsorbed in the terminal ileum. But the malabsorption problem compromises that process and some (and in some cases most) of the bile is unabsorbed, and so it continues on into the colon, where it contributes to the diarrhea, if present in significant amounts.

As you suppress the inflammation, and your intestines begin to heal, those symptoms will slowly fade away.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
