Hi everyone!
As I continue taking cholestyramine, and it interferes with magnesium absoption (I take doctor best glycinate), Is it better to take it with food (and cholestyramine) or taking it on an empty stomach with plenty of water and no cholestyramine interference.
Thanks!

Re: Question about magnesium and cholestyramine
I believe magnesium is absorbed best with food, so I take a tablet after each meal, except that I don't eat anything after my noon meal, so I take my last dose on an empty stomach right before bedtime, and that works well for me. But if I were taking cholestyramine, I would definitely time my magnesium schedule to fit the cholestyramine, because cholestyramine not only sequesters magnesium, but it also causes more magnesium to be purged in the urine. In other words, if I were taking cholestyramine, I would take a magnesium tablet at least an hour or two before, or 4 to 6 hours after taking the Colestyramine. I assume you're aware that we shouldn't take all of our magnesium supplement dose at one time during the day, because we can only absorb so much over any given time period. If we take more than we can absorb, it's just wasted. Many other prescription medications also deplete magnesium, especially those that contain fluoride.
I hope this helps.

Re: Question about magnesium and cholestyramine
I take my magnesium with food and don't do my cholestyramine for at least an hour after that. Mostly I'm eating 2 meals a day so take magnesium 2x/day. Seems to work for me.
