10 Year Colonoscopy

Post by Marcia K »

Hello! I've been struggling with the decision to have a 10 year colonoscopy. I was diagnosed with LC 10 years ago at the time I had a colonoscopy scheduled due to my age. I had D for eight weeks prior to the colonoscopy and it was a Godsend that I was diagnosed so soon. I have been in remission for a long time due to finding this group and doing the elimination diet. I have a family history of colon CA, celiac disease & Crohn's, so I decided to bite the bullet and have it done. I did the Dulcolax (2 pills) and Miralax (8.5 oz.) in 64 oz. of Gatorade cleanse. They now have you split the prep into two days, but I wasn't getting up at 3:15a to do the second half so I did it all in one day as I did 10 years ago. I can't say that it was awful, I actually felt worse with the two Dulcolax pills on an empty stomach than I did drinking the Gatorade cocktail. I was still going to the bathroom this morning. The good news is that my results were good - no polyps, diverticulitis or colitis. While a biopsy wasn't performed, I won't know if I have signs of LC, I'm happy with the result. As colonoscopies aren't recommended after age 75 & I'm now 63, I'm fairly sure this is my last one unless I would have some type of issue. Time will tell if the prep inflamed my intestines, I'm hoping not!! I wish you all a Happy gluten-less Thanksgiving!

Thanks for sharing. My last colonoscopy was 23 years ago, but I can still remember how nauseous that GoLYTELY made me. I was barely able to get a little over half of that big bottle down, because I was on the verge of vomiting everything back up.

Happy Thanksgiving,

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
