Travel Trips Please

Post by emlepage1 »

Hello.

Our family will be traveling across the country for the holidays, and I am looking for some tips on what to pack on the plane and is there an alternative to cooking loads of vegetables while staying at someone else's home? We are going to be doing a lot of day trips visiting different friends and I plan to bring my own meals. I just wish it could be less work. Last year I gave up and decided to just eat what was being served which somehow worked while I was there but when we got home after doing this for ten days I was in terrible shape, and it took me over a month to get back to where I was.

I guess another question is what do you do when out comes the gallons of your favorite ice cream? This is the hardest for me. Right now, I am staying away from fruit, and I don't know of any safe desserts.

The only pre-packaged food that I can think of is a popped sorghum which I seem to do fine with. I can't do rice, so rice cakes don't work. I am not doing nuts right now so that is not an option.

Thank you,
Elaine

Hello Elaine,

You can find tips for traveling at the following link:

Re: ice cream, many members here swear by So Delicious brand of coconut milk ice cream. There are other safe brands as well, based on alternative milks. You can check out these So Delicious brand options on the following website. Note that there are other options there by other manufacturers, but be sure to check ingredient list on all of them for other possible allergens.

When selecting ice cream remember that most of us can't tolerate pea protein and virtually none of us can tolerate oats, making ice creams based on oat milk off-limits.

The So Delicious website shows numerous options, but be sure to check out the ingredients before trying some of these, other than the ones mentioned above, because they also make frozen desserts using oat milk.

There are quite a few safe desert recipes in the Dee's kitchen area so you can enjoy treats

one of the main things i can suggest is - retrain your mind.
When you see others eating ice cream, dont spend time thinking I am missing out, it is not fair etc.
Instead you have to adopt the - it is not worth days of symptoms. I have put lots of energy and time into healing it is not worth undoing 6 months of hard work and most of all - I am ok with these life changes.

if people at the dinner table say things like - just have a little bit, it can't hurt.
My reply was always, would you knowingly have a little bit of poison or chemical? the reality for my body is that the combo of those ingredients is like a poison to my gut. I value my health and wellbeing and dont want to eat something that will hurt my body. That always stopped people encouraging me to have a little bit!!

When I used to travel for work, I would do some pre-cooking, freeze it and then take small cooler bag on plan with the pre cooked meals.
Having my MC safe breakfast each day made it easier to do day trips and survive on minimal pre packaged food items during the day

The reality is - healthy MC safe eating is extra work.
Again with the mindset dont see this as burden or punishment. It is you having control on your wellness. Big adjustment I know but if you value long term wellness and minimal symptoms it is a very small price to pay.

Hi, Elaine. If there are Target stores on your travels, they carry gf items. I purchased Applegate gf hot dogs while in CA & I was eating one in a piece of gf bread while in the back of an Uber! We have to do what we have to do. I always have Nick's turkeys sticks on hand (Vitacost online has them), canned skipjack tuna in spring water, Justin's almond butter packets, Lundberg thin brown rice stackers, Lara bars (high in sugar, but they hold me over), Jones Canadian bacon travels well. Enjoy your trip!
