Reading post from Aug 2022, Tex mentioned that Microscopic colitis depletes Vit D and magnesium, which i already take. How much should I be supplementing? I was diagnosed with LC in May 2023.

Welcome to the group. Average vitamin D usage per day is around 5000 IU. Of course, some of us may need more, before we're able to reach remission, but around 5000 IU is usually a safe dose for anyone. It's a good idea to have your vitamin D level checked once or twice a year in case you need more. And after you've been in remission for a while, and your digestive system has had a few months to heal, you may need less.
300 or 400 mg of magnesium daily is usually a safe dose, as long as your kidneys are functioning properly. If they're not, (in other words if you have low eGFR readings, due to kidney disease), check with your doctor before making any changes. Most of us take magnesium gycinate, because it's one of the easiest to absorb forms of magnesium supplements, and probably the least likely to cause diarrhea. We can only absorb so much magnesium at any given time, so it's best to divide up the daily dose among your meals. For example, I take a tablet after breakfast, and one after lunch, and one right before bedtime, for a total dose of 300 mg. Some people take more, but higher doses can cause diarrhea, and if that happens, we have to lower the dose, and we may have to use applications of magnesium lotion, or magnesium oil on the skin. Most of us take Doctors Best brand, but there are also other safe brands, as long as we read the label.
