Enterolab Results, please help withresults.

Post by rskala »

Hi,
I received my results from Enterolab. I do have MC for 2 years now.

Results:
Fecal Anti-gliadin IgA 221 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Fecal Anti-casein (cow’s milk) IgA 63 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Fecal Anti-ovalbumin (chicken egg) IgA 74 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Fecal Anti-soy IgA 80 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Mean Value 11 Antigenic Foods 54 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
While all of the foods tested can be immune-stimulating, the hierarchy of reactions detected were as follows:

Food to which there was no significant
immunological reactivity: None

Food to which there was some immunological
reactivity (1+): None

Food to which there was moderate immunological
reactivity (2+):
Oat
Rice
Chicken
Beef
Pork
Almond
Walnut
White potato

Food to which there was significant and/or the most
immunological reactivity (3+):
Corn
Tuna
Cashew

Within each class of foods to which you displayed multiple reactions, the hierarchy of those reactions detected were as follows:
Grains:
Grain toward which you displayed the most immunologic reactivity: Corn
Grain toward which you displayed intermediate immunologic reactivity: Oat
Grain toward which you displayed the least immunologic reactivity: Rice

Meats:
Meat toward which you displayed the most immunologic reactivity: Tuna
Meat toward which you were next most immunologically reactive: Chicken
Meat toward which you displayed intermediate immunologic reactivity: Beef
Meat toward which you displayed the least immunologic reactivity: Pork

Nuts:
Nut toward which you displayed the most immunologic reactivity: Cashew
Nut toward which you displayed intermediate immunologic reactivity: Almond
Nut toward which you displayed the least immunologic reactivity: Walnut

Nightshades:
You displayed immunologic reactivity to white potato, the member of the nightshade family usually consumed most often and in greatest quantities. While this does not necessarily mean you would react to all other nightshade foods
(tomatoes, peppers, eggplant), it is possible. In the realm of elimination diets for immunologic disorders, nightshades are usually eliminated as the entire food class (i.e., all four previously mentioned foods in this class). This is especially
important to the clinical setting of arthritis

So does all this mean that I had response to Gluten, Dairy, soy, eggs and numerious other things. What does nightshades mean? Please help me interpret this lab result.
Thank-you Roland Skala

Hello Roland,

Yes, not only do you react to all those foods, but your high antibody results suggest that you have been reacting to them for a long time, so your immune system is extremely sensitive to them. The nightshade family includes foods such as tomato, eggplant, peppers, belladonna, potatoes, tobacco, and numerous other related plants.

In order to stop your microscopic colitis symptoms and allow your digestive system to heal, you will need to totally avoid all of these foods and any ingredients that are made from them. The Microscopic Colitis Foundation published a newsletter a few years ago with guidelines for interpreting EnteroLab results and selecting safe foods for a recovery diet. You can either read, or download a copy of that newsletter by clicking on the link below:

Here are some suggestions for safe foods, quoted from The Microscopic Colitis Diet Book.
Safe Proteins

turkey
quail
duck
goose
emu
lamb
cabrito (goat)
venison
antelope
rabbit
shrimp
muscles
clams
prawns
lobsters
crabs
octopus

Safe vegetables

carrots
squash
green beans
Brussels sprouts
kohlrabi
rutabagas
turnips
parsnips
sweet potatoes
yams
cassava
broccoli
cabbage
cauliflower
I hope this helps,

Quick question.

The box that foods to which there was a moderate immu reactivity (2+) and (3+). Does that mean I should avoid all those foods if possible? Wow this is going to be tough on what to eat.

Thanks Roland

Your score on the 11 antigenic foods was 54, which is very high, so yes, you should definitely avoid those foods. Yes, it's a tough situation, but many of us have been through it, and we learn how to deal with it, so that our digestive system can heal. After I digestive system heals for year two, many of us are able to add some of those foods back into our diet, but gluten, dairy products, soy and eggs will probably always be off-limits.
