Vit d and magnesuim

Post by rskala »

Hi,

Was wondering if I should take Vit d and magnesuim everyday. My enterolab came back fairly high on everything. The magnesuim i am taking is doctors best, high obsorption, lysinate glycinate 100% chelated. The direction say take 4 pills a day.
Vit d is bluebonnet vitamin d3 50 mcg. Direction take 1 a day.
I get my blood work done in june. Whats your thoughts in this? I have had MC for 2 years and currently battling eating very few foods. Do not want to go back on budesonide.
Thanks Roland

Our immune system uses vitamin D as fuel, and vitamin D has to be activated by magnesium in order to be available in the active form so that our immune system can use it. So that's why we need to make sure we have adequate vitamin D and magnesium, because our immune system is responsible for healing damaged cells in our body, and our digestive system requires a lot of healing in order to to recover from MC.

The magnesium supplement you're using should be fine, but I'm not familiar with that vitamin D supplement. As long as the label shows that all the inactive ingredients are safe, and it supplies at least 5000 IU of vitamin D per day, it should be fine, also. Humans normally use about 5000 IU of vitamin D per day, and as we're healing, we may, or may not need more. It doesn't hurt to take more as long as you don't take any huge doses (over 40,000 IU per day) for an extended period (such as for months). When your blood tests are scheduled, it would be helpful to know your vitamin D3 level (25-hydroxy vitamin D, or 25[OH]D). It would also be helpful to know your magnesium level, but most doctors have historically ordered the wrong test — they order the serum magnesium test, and that result is only useful in an emergency room sitting. The correct test to order is the red blood cell (RBC) magnesium test.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I hope it's useful.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
