Hi I am going to my GP for my annual physical. I am 11 years vegan and have had excellent bloodwork. I always check B12 and it is always fine. Besides B12, is there anything else I should check now, like magnesium or anything else. I haven’t seen my GP since 2021,before being diagnosed with CC, MCAS and EDS. (Because I was seeing so many specialists and functional Dr.) I have a lot of food allergies that have developed over the past few years going through mast cell and can not eat many healthy choices I used to be able to. I am taking B12, D3, magnesium because of my limited choices.
I also want to know if I should stop taking any vitamins before my bloodwork( if so how far before)?
I have submitted my “sample” to EnteroLab and am waiting for my results which won’t come until after my regular apt.
I really appreciate any suggestions you might have.
Thank you

Re: Recommendations for bloodwork
Hi,
B-12 should be the only vitamin that might need testing if you're following a vegan diet, as far as I'm aware, but I believe it's necessary to stop taking B-12 supplements a few weeks before the test, in order to get an accurate test result. The liver can store vitamin B12 for up to 5 years, normally, so a few weeks of treatment interruption shouldn't be a problem.
I see that this is your 1st post, so welcome to the group. I hope you can find the solutions you need here.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
