flare

Post by Savitri »

Dear all,

I hope you are ok.
I have a serious flare after stress connected to a trip to India with too little sleep and a very restricted diet (rice, bananas and eggs) and a jetlag. I also have an inflamed knee, connected to my flare.

I have watery d since one week, which started in India. Since 5 days I am home and on my 'normal' diet.
I wonder what I can do best now. I thought of a lot of bone broth and maybe without veggies, Rice and applesauce.
Untill my condition improves. What do you think? A problem is that I miss my proteins with this diet and I miss them already since 2 1/2 week.
I also think about going on budesonide for a restricted period if this diet does not work. But how long shall I trie this?
I appreciate your respons,
Sonja

Hello Sonja,

I'm sorry that you're in a flare. I see that this is your first post, so welcome to the group.

Usually, going back to the diet that we originally used to reach remission for a while should bring remission. I'm wondering, though, since you traveled to a foreign country, if you might've picked up a parasite or some sort of bacterial infection. It might be good idea to ask your doctor for a stool test, just in case you have an infection. Unless the flare was caused by gluten, you should be able to reach remission within a week or 2 (assuming that you're able to get the stress under control). Every situation is different, though, so it might take longer to reach remission.

Hi Tex,

Thank for your reply. I am not new, but I could not manage to get in the forum anymore. So I made a new account. We had contact over that some weeks ago.
I also thought about a stooltest, but the d. and the gurgling is exactly like it was 13 years ago, when my LC started. I thought I would have cramps if there is a parasite. But if things remains like this, I will ask for a stooltest monday.

Hello Sonja,

I didn't realize this was your new account. Do you by any chance have any fever? It's possible to catch all sorts of diseases In India, such as dengue fever, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and malaria. But if you don't have any fever, it's probably just A bad MC flare, just as you suspect. It should settle down soon, now that you're back home, where you can be sure the food is safe. But if it's not at least a little improved by Monday, it might be a good idea to get a stool test, just in case.

Love,

Tex

Dear Tex,

I am very very happy to tell you that my WD disappeared, just from one day to another. I was very happy with your advise to follow my normal diet. Because I had been 10 days on rice, bananas and eggs in India and the first days back home on rice, applesauce and bananas was very tough for me. I was really frightened that the situation with the WD should continue........
So, thank you very much!
Love, Sonja
