It working so far!!
Hello!
I am now 68 (female) and was diagnosed last year with MC and took the recommended steroid for all 87 days ending in August. And then in January 2024, it returned. I found you!! Because I didn't like the steroid and knew someone was out there. It was not how I envisioned retirement but I appreciate all the new "friends" I've found here.
I have followed the recommended diet and have been eating sweet potatoes, rutabagas, delicatata squash, spinach, asparagus, ground & sliced turkey, ground lamb, ground pork, green beans. I've added in some almond butter and olives and use coconut aminos.I drink one cup of coffee and maybe a little tea on occasion. Plus the magnesium and B's y'all recommended. I have had some white wine and some Hua chocolate and was okay. We keep bees so a spoonful of honey once or twice seemed okay. White potatoes, meh. I am a life long baker and love food so it was hard at first but this morning I woke up rested and felt fabulous and energetic all day.
Thank you. To Tex and Gabe especially, but to ALL of you who write in and question and rethink what we can try or do.
Your incredible advice has driven my MC to just one or two nearly normal morning visits to the bathroom after weeks of, well, I don't need to describe that part to any of you.
I am awaiting my lab results from EnteroLab. You have been a lifesaver, truly. My doctor was so impressed and said I knew far more than she did. (thank you MC Forum for helping me earn my Masters Degree in best practices Ha, Ha!). She also prescribed me an "emergency" prescription of Budesonid in case in I ever need it (I like to travel). And signed off on ordering the testing from Enterolab. I feel hopeful. I know it'll be a long road but you have truly helped me.
Stay the course y'all. I know there is more discovery out there.
My only question is have folks had success with buckwheat groats- I've seen several bread recipes with just salt, buckwheat and water? Rice did not go well for me . I don't really miss the grain but there are those moments a slice of toast would be welcomed.
Thanks again.
Peace,
Ms Vic.

Re: It working so far!!
Great to hear you are doing well, Ms Vic. I have not had any experience with buckwheat bread, but this week my husband found a cassava flour biscuit recipe that I think is great. There are lots of versions out there for the Paleo diet, I will share my link if you are interested. He has made some other efforts at bread type products that I was glad to eat but they didn’t resemble other bread products at all.

thanks! I have had the Seite brand cassava flour tortillas and they are a little tough. The almond flour ones are better .

Thanks for sharing that inspiring post. The weather outside is rather gloomy this morning, but reading your post really brightened my day. You seem to be right on track for a speedy recovery, and I hope your success continues, with a minimal risk of bumps along the way, on your journey back to health.

Re: It working so far!!
Your path sounds so similar to mine! I would like to trade Doctor's with you, though! Mine recommended more stool samples if the budesonide doesn't work because MC is an infection.(not) I asked if I would need another colonoscopy and he said no. Right now I'm doing a slow tapering off of the drug.
Last August I sent away for the Entero Lab testing and as soon as received my results, I stopped eating eggs and the WD stopped! So for me, it was worth the money as insurance wouldn't pay for it. Although, my colonoscopy was fully covered.
What you're eating is also very similar except my husband and I were able to find venison and that's help change things up a bit. I'm going to try spinach!
Thanks so much for sharing your inspiring story. It feels good to have company and gives me hope for remission.

p.s. I tried to pm you to share information but I don't know how that works on this forum.

To send a private message, look at one of the posts from the person to whom you want to send a private message. You'll notice on the far right of the window containing the post, it says "contact", with a little icon containing three dots to the right of the word "contact". If you click on that icon with the three dots, it will open a window that offers you two choices — "private message", and "email". Click on "private message", and the system will open a window where you can compose a private message, and send it. If you still have problems with this, please ask, and I'll try to do a better job of explaining.
