Bad symptoms after ending Budesonide

Post by SUCKS »

Hello,

So glad to find this website and hoping to gain some insight on this awful disorder.

I was diagnosed after a colonoscopy with lymphocytic colitis and put on a tapered 10 week course of budesonide. I did feel it helped a lot, with both frequency and urgency.

However, since completing the course of medication, 4 days ago, I have been hit with overwhelming fatigue, horrendous bloating and stomach pains. Also, intermittent nausea. Appetite is down. Unable to complete routine daily exercise routine.

Called the GI doctor and spoke with his nurse, who said that these symptoms are not typical. Is going to speak with the doctor and stated that he will probably put me on another course of budesonide.

Needless to say, I am beyond frustrated. I am wondering if any of you have input/feedback on this treatment. If budesonide has worked for you and your course of the medication.

Thank you so very much for your time and help.

Hello Jennifer,

Your doctor's nurse didn't exactly give you an honest answer. Or maybe she knew very little about MC. The truth is, published research proves that at least 80% of MC patients who respond to budesonide, relapse soon after the treatment is ended. That's why we recommend changing your diet early on, otherwise your immune system will begin reacting to your food sensitivities after the budesonide treatment is ended.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out to me
During all of this, neither the GI or my primary doctor has said anything about diet! Absolutely nothing!
Please let me know where I can find information.
I appreciate your help and time.

Surely. You can find the information you need to put this disease into remission in the post (and all the other pages in that thread) at the following link:

I hope this helps.

Hello. I too was on Budesonide and it seemed to help but it caused bad fatigue. Now that I am off of it, I seem to be more alert, but the other symptoms seem to be coming back. I have a follow up in 4 weeks with my doctor to see what the next steps are. Best wishes.
