Electrolyte

Post by humbird753 »

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in quite awhile, but I do get on occasionally and search or read posts. I read a few days ago a post and you, Tex, posted a reply which had to do with an electrolyte concentrate from Allergy Research Group (I think). I tried searching for that product tonight but I was unable to find it. I'm wondering if I wrote the information down correctly. Now looking through posts it may have been in, I'm unable to find it. Could you please let me know what that product is?

Both my husband and I had some sort of stomach bug a couple of weeks ago. His improved, but mine has gotten worse. I'm having too many bathroom visits, and I'm concerned about dehydration.

Thank you.
Paula

Hi Paula,

At my age (I'll be 83 in four days), your memory is surely a lot better than mine, because I don't recall that post, or anything about it. Here's a link to the results of a Google search:

https://www.google.com/search?q=electro ... arch+group

I hope this helps,

Tex

Thank you for the link, Tex. I went directly to Allergy Research Group's page, and strangely was unable to find this product there. Your link goes to Oakway Healthcare's page, but they do sell Allergy Research Group's product - Balanced Electrolyte. Instructions are 2 capsful to 8oz water.

I looked again for the post I had seen with this information. It's a thread started by Catieu entitled, "I need help please," and it's dated March 20, 2024.
Just thought I'd post this so you know where I read it.

Is it possible to go into a full flare from a stomach bug? That's what it appears I'm going through as the D is very watery and too often. I'm on a diet of simple foods for the past 5 or 6 days of meats, rice, and well-cooked veggies, eggs and other breakfast foods, bananas, apple sauce, rice cake with natural peanut butter hoping to get this under control. The only other thing that was different (other than the stomach bug) was that I ate some watermelon around that time. I believe that's a "no no" for us, but I thought a little would be okay. If it is a full flare, would it be wise for me to consider taking a probiotic for a short period of time?

I've been reading lately on bioengineered foods, and chemicals added to many fruits and vegetables, either injected or a coating called Apeel to many others to give them a longer shelf life. Have you or others here heard about it, and do you feel it's safe? Just a thought and wondered what your opinion is.

Thank you, Tex, for all you do. You are appreciated more than you can imagine.

Sure, it's possible for a virus to cause a full flare.

I'm not a probiotic fan, because they have to be matched for individual microbiota needs. The wrong one can make symptoms worse. But a few people seem to have success with them, or at least they claim they do. If you have one in mind that you've been able to successfully use in the past, it should be okay, if you think it will help.

Additives, in general, from "tenderizing" solutions injected into poultry, to spray on coatings designed to extend the shelf life and visual appeal of fruit and vegetables are not compatible with good digestion, in my opinion, and for some of us, they probably can cause serious problems. Because of this trend, many foods that were once considered wholesome and pure, are no longer pure.

As always, Tex, I appreciate your opinions. I'm sorry to hear that fresh fruits and veggies in the stores have to be scrutinized also. They definitely sound like they would cause a lot of problems for everyone, and especially those of us whose digestive systems are already compromised.

My best to you

Allergy Research Group's Balanced Electrolyte Concentrate does not appear to be available. I saw it in Oakway Healthcare's web site, but when I tried to order it, I was first told it was a unsecure site, and then when I proceeded to go to "my cart" to check out, I only got an error code. I'm mentioning this in the event anyone else was considering ordering this product.

Hmmm. Apparently it's not a big seller if it's that hard to get. Thanks for checking it out.

Paula, it's scary what we're eating without being aware that we're eating it. Our country is so far behind other countries in keeping our food supply safe. I hope you soon find an end to the flare. Take care!

Marcia K,

I agree that our country isn't doing a good job in keeping our food supply safe. I would have expected other countries to follow and do the same, but apparently that's not the case.

Thank you for the well wishes on my flare. The positive thing about this flare is that I know what to do. When my first symptoms occurred in 2009, it took 10 months before I was diagnosed. Then it took another 20 months before I found this forum. So rather than being in a flare for 2 weeks now, it was 2-1/2 years the first go around. I'm hoping to be able to get this under control quickly - we'll see.

Wishing you well in your MC journey.

When I was at my worst I made my own electrolyte solution from a recipe I pulled from this website. I want to say Polly posted it-but I could be wrong. I still have the bottle of potassium chloride powder I bought at a health food store, of course you can order all this from Amazon now adays!!!

Laine, you are indeed correct. That post about the electrolyte solution was made by Polly.
