temazepam

I've been having a hard time sleeping recently, often getting just 6 hours or less of sleep a night. Melatonin has not helped.

Temazepam has been suggested as a short-term solution. Have any of you taken this, or do you know if it's safe for people with MC to take?

That's my usual pattern. For the last few decades, I've rarely slept more than six hours per night. Have you seen the latest newsletter published by the Microscopic Colitis Foundation? It discusses this topic. Sorry, I can help you with the Temazepam, because I know absolutely nothing about it. As you will see in the article below, though, sleep aid medications might help you sleep, but they don't provide good rest, according to research.

Thank you, Tex. I thought I had signed up for the newsletter, but I guess not. I have now signed up.

Getting poor sleep is exhausting, and it's discouraging to hear that sleep aids do not actually give quality sleep. Right now melatonin isn't giving me even quantity of sleep, much less quality.

I will try some of the other suggestions in the newsletter, like getting up to read, or doing meditative things. My mind tends to wander off when I try to meditate, so I'll have to work on that.

Thank you so much for all the encouragement and good advice you give to so many of us.

Hello Martha

I get about 6 1/2 hours of sleep a night, unless I'm feeling Ill, then I can get about 7 or 8 hours of sleep. Weeks before my initial MC flare began I could only get 2 or 3 hours. I think some of the insomnia was caused by getting stressed about the insomnia - vicious circle so to speak.

One thing I found that helps, other than alleviating the MC symptoms, was to get outside in the morning and get sun on my face as soon as the sun was up.

I think the best gauge of whether you are getting enough sleep is how you feel during the day.

I have to 'rest' for 10 hours to get 8 hours sleep.

the other thing I have noted is that if I rest (not sleep), playing audiobook or podcast in room with minimal light, my resting heart rate is the same as my sleep heart rate. for most of my MC journey, if I am overtired a rest like this on the weekend helps ALOT.

If I wake through the night, I use audiobooks to get back to sleep. They are children books like wind in the willows, Alice in wonderland I tested a lot of them to get readers that the tone of the voice helps me return to sleep within 5 minutes. this is easy for me as I live alone.

When I was magnesium deficient if I woke through the night I would spray my neck with magnesium, put the audio book on and be back to sleep within 10 minutes
If sharing the bed you can get headband type thing to wear that will not disturb others

Hello!!

I also sleep few hours, about six. Just like Gabes, when I wake up at night, I put on my earbuds and listen to some boring radio program, setting it to turn off after about half an hour. I fall back asleep very quickly. Sometimes, after a few hours, I wake up again and repeat the process until it's time to get up.

But I'm going to try with children's stories. It sounds like a very good idea. Thank you.

If we count all the hours of sleep without considering the interruptions and they add up to eight hours, could we consider that we have had a proper sleep? Assuming it was restful.
