Fat and various other things
Hi hope all is well!
I havnt posted on here for a while as ive generally been ok .. ive had ups and downs buts mainly ups. Recently things hsve changed though and it feels as though ive regressed. one day im good the next im bad and so on... i cant seem to find the reason.. Ive got a few questions you might be able to help me with...
I have tended to edge towards a higher fat diet ..the good fats! and this has suited me and helped my gut heal a bit. recently it has turned the other way and its as though my bile or liver function has gone into overdrive.. what could this mean? im suspecting my body is detoxing something.... this brings me to my next question , has anyone had any experice with activated charcoal and mould? i have moved house 6 months ago and think there are areas of mould.
lastly, im increasingly starting to thing that MC and various other gut disorders and caused by some sort of nervous /emotional/lifestyle disfucntion. Im thinking something triggers the the initial reaction but that the root cause must go back into something related to the nerous system and the brain. Im wondering what your thoughts are on this .. It seems to me that most people with gut problems tend to edge towards the emotional side and that if we can get to the root cause of whats causing our emotional triggers we might have a better chance of staying in remission...
Thanks !

The neurological side of MC is as important as the physical side, as far as maintaining remission is concerned. But if your symptoms are occurring every other day, look at what you're doing differently on various days. And I'm not just referring to food — many things in your environment could be causing the symptoms. It might help to keep a detailed diary of everything you do, and everything you put in your mouth, or on your skin, or breathe in, or whatever. Eventually, you should be able to see a pattern of clues that might help to pinpoint the problem.

Hi Tex thanks for your advice.. Ive looked at what ive eaten etc and its generally the same as what ive always eaten... the only thing i can pinpoint is the fat.. after a fatty stew for instance . I dont know why, Ive not had any serious flares the last year so would have thought that i was slowly healing my gut and less likely to react to foods. Perhaps i have some hidden stress coming out , i wish there was a way to tell one from the other.
Another question that sprung to mind while writing this .. have you any knowledge of activated charcoal helping anyone with MC? Ive read various things but couldnt find much on here. Ive read its good for detoxing pathogens molds and metals from the gut. cant be a bad thing i dont know?
Thanks for you help

I believe some members here have used activated charcoal in the past for detoxing of heavy metals, for example, but I don't recall anyone using it (successfully at least) for reducing inflammation. There are case studies showing that in some situations (not involving MC patients), the use of activated charcoal has induced colitis symptoms.

Hi there! It's good to hear you've had mostly ups lately. It sounds like you're dealing with some challenging changes right now.
For your diet and liver function concerns, it might be worth discussing with a healthcare professional to get a better understanding of what's happening.
Regarding activated charcoal and mold, I've read that activated charcoal can help with detox, but it's important to address the mold issue in your home directly to avoid ongoing problems.
I also agree that there's a strong connection between gut health and emotional well-being. Addressing emotional triggers might indeed help manage gut disorders better. Take care!

Hi Fredi
Thanks for your input! yes im genrally in remission the last year and a half, have had the odd bad day or 2 but nothing too concerning fingers crossed. Im still finding the right balance though and it can be hard. Charcoal is something ive taken a few times and doesnt seem to aid in much for me but knew it could help some people with gi issues. mold is something i worry about though
The emotional connection is something ive really been intereted in lately and would say that is 90percent of my cause of MC .. the vagus nerve and poly vagal theory is facinating . I would highly reccomend looking into it.
Cheers all the best
