OMG! I didn't know that ear infections were caused by dairy allergy. I have had so many ear problems for the past several years. I used to have a lot of ear infections but now the problem is CHRONIC "swimmers ear".
I have been drinking a protein drink every morning for months. I didn't like it with water so have been using milk.
I hope your ear is better soon and the infection is gone along with the dairy trial.
GOSH.....I wish we didn't have to eat......its a pain in almost every aspect!
hugs

Lori,
Most of the references linking dairy products to ear infectons are related to research on autistic kids. I'm not sure if much research has been done with adults, but there is a lot of information linking dairy products with ear problems in children. Since I can't see any reason why adults would be exempt, I just assumed that it probably would apply to adults also, at least those who are casein sensitive.
For at least 30 years, my breakfast of choice was Carnation Instant Breakfast, in a big glass of milk. It was great--quick, easy, and filling. I don't suppose I'll ever be able to do that again, though.
Maybe you could use rice milk, or almond milk, with the protein drink.
Yes, my ear is a lot better. The pain is gone, but of course, now it is plugged with wax and crud, so I can't hear worth a hoot, but with a little more flushing , it should be good as new.
Hugs,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Lori,
None of this is chiseled in stone, and I still haven't come across any research results for adults, so this may not apply to you, but consider this quote:
"Older kids with ear infections often stop having ear infections when dairy is removed from their diets.
This has been a key intervention in my practice. I have cared for hundreds of kids who have taken ten or even twenty courses of antibiotics and even steroids. They were able to cancel scheduled ear surgery because they got better when they stopped drinking milk and eating cheese. The ear infections just plain stopped for many of the children and for others they decreased to manageable childhood illnesses rather than being a constant source of pain, school absences and incapacity."
That comes from this site:

Here's another interesting quote from that site:
"Milk does not “do a body good” nor build strong bones. It is a traditional food which has become a lazy staple of the American diet.
Children (and their parents) get healthier when they have fewer dairy products and are healthiest when they have none."
And yet another:
"Countries with the highest dairy intake have the highest incidence of osteoporosis. This striking fact seems at odds with everything we think we “know” about calcium and nutrition. Osteoporosis is related more to calcium excretion due to salt and protein intake than to calcium deficiency in the diet."
Hugs,
Wayne
