What are the immediate and long-term effects of living with this disease?

Can LC cause anal fissure?

Post by ovenroutine »

Hello! I am newly diagnosed so I am still learning about LC. I have been suffering with an anal fissure for a few months now and at my appointment with the doctor for the fissure she said that my fissure indicated IBD but not MC because it is on the side. But I just had a colonoscopy, so I clearly don’t have Chrons! I am wondering if anyone else has MC with an anal fissure. Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the fissure. Those are usually quite painful (as if we need another symptom). As you learn more about this disease, you'll learn that doctors don't understand it very well and so they often misinform patients about some of the symptoms associated with the disease. There's no medical research evidence that the disease causes anal fissures, but it tends to inflame the digestive tract from mouth to anus, and the inflammation on top of all the diarrhea can certainly cause anal fissures. They don't seem to be common, but more than a few of us here have been troubled by them. The inflammation and diarrhea tend to promote hemorrhoids, also.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
