I did try rubbing the lotion on my abdomen, so maybe that is why I’m reacting so much. But I would rather use a soy-free lotion to avoid any issues now.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with soy-based magnesium lotions/topicals?
buy magnesium chloride in bulk (it is like course salt) , mix it into warm water, then pour this into jar / spray bottle
you can add your own moisturiser like coconut oil if you wish
When I do foot soaks, I use Magnesium chloride and coconut oil in the hot water

Hi Gabes, thank you for the info! This is really helpful.
Now that I had this reaction, I’m wondering how I should approach any topicals moving forward. Should I stick to only applying it to my hands and feet?
Posting a little late on this but I was someone who tried alot of magnesium...did oils initially, then stepped up to lotions. My favorite is Elepure (Amazon, made in Utah), Mo Maggies is also nice. I based my lotions on how much magnesium was per teaspoon of lotion I believe. Also did Remag...not sure this is still a deal on this page-it was for awhile. I think I did a few bottles of that stuff-you put it in water and sip during the day. It was a big deal when my gut was good enough to go onto oral magnesium!!!
And being a BATH girl-I would do baths with epsom salts whenever!!! Other than stinging with the oil (especially if you just shaved your legs or something..), I never had any sort of skin reactions to magnesium-and I was slathering myself with that stuff multiple times a day.

Hi Laine, I really appreciate the info! I’m making note of these, especially the ReMag, for when I can tolerate more magnesium. Was there something that clued you in that you were ready to try the oral mag? How did you transition to that?
Honestly I didn't start doing mag PILLS until I was pretty good on 8 packets of cholestyramine a day! I wasn't willing to risk diarrhea because of oral mag, so I did lotions for a long time..again, I slathered all available surfaces with that stuff multiple times per day! Which worked for me because Colorado and Arizona are so dry that you end up using lotion anyway..
